I think they've concluded that the U. S. has its hands tied between now and Nov 2, and wouldn't dare attack Iran because of the negative press they'd get from the leftists in the media.
They see us flailing around in Fallujah, tied down with half the world against us and decided we shot our wad. The might be right, and this is their window of opportunity. (I know, I know, Israel’s going to fly in and save the day… we’re just waiting for Nov 3rd, etc…)
