A French citizen is the first person to face criminal prosecution here on child sex tourism charges under newly adopted laws aimed at protecting children.
Sebastian Sarraute, 30, was arrested minutes after his flight touched down at Tucson International Airport Wednesday night, accused of traveling from France to Arizona to have sex with underage girls in Mexico. The arrest, the seventh in the U.S. under the Protect Act, which became law last year, is the culmination of a yearlong investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
Sarraute made his initial appearance in U.S. District Court Thursday on a charge of traveling to engage in sexual acts with children.
"Whether a sexual predator is on the Internet exploiting our virtual borders or is an alien who has preyed on children, ICE is using all of its law-enforcement authorities to identify them and bring them to justice," said Steve Minas Jr., acting special agent in charge of agency investigations in Tucson.
"We are committed to doing everything possible to prevent the exploitation of children both here and abroad."
Sarraute's arrest is part of Operation Predator, an ongoing drive to identify, investigate, arrest and in the case of foreign nationals, deport sexual predators of children.

Good job. So what did he do to attract their attention? When he was asked on a customs questionnaire his purpose for entry in the U.S., did he answer: "To have sex with underaged girls in Mexico.?"
He was probably making arrangements over the Internet.
You often read news stories about how these pedophiles hook up with some under-aged girl only to find out that the object of their lust was a bald, fat, cigar-chomping middle-aged undercover police officer. :-)
