mattdono in Gainesville, checking in.

I would mention that there is some good news coming out of this. Michael "I've-never-turned-away-from-a-cheeseburger-or-a-conspiracy-theory-I-could-get-my-hands-on" Moore was scheduled to speak at the University of Florida on Monday or Tuesday. I've heard that because of the hurricane, the thing was cancelled. And, he was going to get FREEPed anyway, but the less time that that scumbag spends inside my county and inside my city limits, the better.

Checking in from Fort Lauderdale...east of US-1 but west of the Intracoastal. We plan to ride it out at home, as we have every 'cane since 1956. The house was built in 1925, so it's survived a few.

Wish us luck. We'll monitor FR as long as we have power and then as long as my laptop's battery holds out.

Good luck and Godspeed to all in Florida!

Laura Mercy! Not this again. NVA is heading to daughter's place in Brandon. Hope all my FReeper friends stay safe. We're looking to the rest of the FReeper Nation to keep the pressure on while we scramble for safety, electricity, and "web tone."

This Sierra is getting VERY old...

My big problem is that I have two big trees north of house. Winds for Charlie and Francess were from SE to NW, so they were a bit protected by house, and had they gone, it would have been into vacant lot. If storm goes east of here, winds could be from N. That not good.

If 11:00 from NHC shows any possibility of storm going east of here, think I'll go to Home Depot and get about 200 feet of 1/2 or 5/8 nylon line, try to secure big trees.

Be safe.

Later

My bad, folks. I pinged everyone to the 9/24 Jeanne thread. Not a bad thing, except it's the 25th.

Even worse, there's two 9/25 threads. This one has more posts, though. The other one is here, so consider this a ping to both threads.

Jeanne ping! Thanks to shield and SE Mom for the heads-up on these threads.

This is the old Ivan ping list. I'll use it from now on as an all-purpose Hurricane Ping List. If you want on or off, FReep-mail me.

Watching the discussions and wind-speed predictions, my bets are on a Category 3 landfall and staying a hurricane all the way up into Georgia.

Luckily, Karl's long gone, and unless it pulls a wicked little loop-de-loop (not unlike our current worrisome Jeanne has), Lisa shouldn't pose much trouble.

Citrus Co. here (about 70 miles north of St. Pete's) & no wind or rain yet. Expect to have both tonight. We still have all our tree stuff left from Frances sitting on the curbs waiting for pickup by the county. I can just see my 4 ft x 60 ft pile flying all over the neighborhood. Good Luck to all the Fl people living closer to the east coast or on the east coast.

HURRICANE JEANNE Weekend thread - LIVE - and freeper check-in

I read that title to read "freeper chick-in.

So I showed up to the thread with a bottle of banana oil, a beach towel, and some D-cell batteries.

I'm just a lurker here on the Connecticut shoreline but always follow the hurricane threads here for my information. I know lots of you can recognize each other but it sure would be interesting to me if you included in your post where you are reporting from when you give information. (Maybe in the tagline?) I'm sure God will recognize your freeper names when I pray for all of you! Be safe!

Checking in from Seminole County. All quiet here right now except in Wal Mart!!

Looks like its going to go west of us, which means we may get the worst of it.

Quite strong winds here in New Port Richey (20 miles north of Clearwater on gulf. Can't figure out why we're getting these winds now with Jeanne so far away.

On my way out at this moment to bring the patio furniture in (for the fourth time).

After the unpredictable behavior of several hurricanes in the past few weeks, I have taken it upon myself to build a new model for forcasting the tracks of hurricanes. The older models relyed upon by the weather centers are out-of-date, and do not account for the vast increases in SUVs and Republicans. Here is the anticipated track for JEANNE based on my computer model:

Dolphins: Miami-Pittsburgh game will not occur on Sunday
by Fanball Staff - Fanball.com
Saturday, September 25, 2004

News
According to the Dolphins' official website, the Dolphins-Steelers game scheduled for 1 p.m. EST on Sunday will be postponed. "After conferring with local authorities and the NFL, in the best interest of public safety it was decided that under no circumstances will the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers be played on Sunday afternoon," Dolphins team president Eddie Jones said in a statement. "The Commissioner's office has asked the two teams to consider the larger public safety issues to determine when the game can best be played." According to several reports, the league is considering Monday or even Tuesday depending on the weather.

Views
This is perhaps better news for fantasy owners planning to use Dolphins or Steelers this week, as Sunday's weather will not be conducive for scoring points. However, the uncertainty is also disconcerting for fantasy owners who need to set their lineup on Sunday morning. At this point, it wouldnot be out of the question to rule out all players on both teams except for elite wide receiver Hines Ward. No matter when the game is played, it promises to be a low-scoring affair, and the passing games on both sides are led by first-time starters A.J. Feeley and rookie Ben Roethlisberger. If you have decent alternatives to Duce Staley, Chris Chambers, and Randy McMichael, we recommend using them.
