If Kerry ever read a history book, he'd have it rewritten so that he played all the "starring roles" and won all the awards. I think I'm glad he hasn't bothered.

Great article. With all the time John Boy spent in Europe as a boy, you'd think he'd have learned some of its history.

Honorable Congressman,

When wind-surfing, your books and newspapers tend to get wet.

What of the two great mysteries -- The navy disavows any knowledge of his third silver-star writeup, and the date of his honorable discharge indicates it was pardoned at the end of the Clinton administration?

It's all simple-minded hindsight. The unforeseen is inherent in war, thus it can not be planned for. The best that can be done is to hone one's capability to adjust to dynamic situations. Even with the best alternative or improvised plan there is no assurance anything will be easy. WWII offers abundant examples. As it always has, perseverance and a single-minded focus on victory carries the day.

Thanks for asking about our situation. We got power back on the third day. On the fourth day, we got the tree taken off our house. On the fifth day, the guy showed up with the tractor to get our half-mile gravel road back in passable condition.

But all-in-all, things were a lot easier on us than many others. Down the road from us, some houses were washed away, and some people were drowned.

Kerry says he's is going to attract more allied help but insults the allies we do have by calling them a coalition of the coerced and the bribed.

John F*ckin's idea of foreign policy is to insult our friends, make our allies won't help us, and embolden our enemies to win. The fact he needs to reassure us he's committed to an American victory is telling. It means people have doubts he's on America's side. Indeed, the impression one gets from his speeches is that he can profit politically only if things get worse for America. Kerry and his friends in the media practically seem to be begging either for a 3/11 here at home or an upsurge in the terrorist violence in Iraq. More progress on either front that creates greater security and freedom would setback his election chances for good. What's news is its the first time in the history of our country one of our political parties can't bring itself to celebrate the very idea of American greatness.

We only had seven allies with us at the end of World War II.

Hmm, that would be;

Commonwealth
France
China
Brazil
USSR
Netherlands

so who was number 7?

HAH!

I wouldn't be surprised to see W use any of this info - in some way - to retort Kerry on Thursday.

If all goes well, it'll be a bloodbath of enormous proportions.

...bin Laden has not been seen for nearly four years.

Yes, quite possibley dead, but leftists like Kerry keep alive the hope that he exists so they are not deprived of an invaluable cudgel against the president. If it became known that he is dead it would only illustrate how foolish it is to focus so much on bin Laden (terrorism continues without him)as Lurch and other Demonrats are doing.

I am very interested to see this statistic. I was wondering what the comparison would be.
"According to the FBI Uniform Crime Report of May 24, 2004, the number of murders reported during calendar years 2002 and 2003 show a comparable death toll exists in several US cities. Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City reported 1,168, 1,246 and 1,184 murders during the subject 24-month period."

I also wonder how the war casualties compare to workplace deaths in other dangerous occupations in the U.S. Anyway the casualties are remarkably low compared to wars historically.

In all candor, that's one of the reasons I wrote this article. I'm a bear for history. And these days, good ideas DO percolate up from the blogosphere to the top levels of politics and the press.

Wouldn't you need to count Canada, NZ, and SAF then too?

Canada, NZ, and SAF

Where they not protectorates of Britain at that time? Unless I am mistaken, they were part of the Commonwealth still....
