Is Janet Linke Bill Burkett's sister? According to Texas death records Jan Peter Linke died 08-21-73 in Harris county Texas. The record lists him as being single at the time of his death.

OK. Cracks in the story are so easy to find --- especially when I'm sitting her in my PJs. Here's what this woman says.

Linke's husband died while serving in the Texas Guard in 1973 after drinking at the officer's club. He nodded off at the wheel, drove into a lake and drowned. Linke was 27 years old with a 3-year-old son. She didn't know much about who W was then; his family was not on the national radar. "We were told his father was very wealthy Texan with CIA connections."

So her husband dies in 1973 but she already knows that some guy they never met or even heard of had a father with CIA connections. Interesting. Here is from the biography of GHW Bush.

Director of Central Intelligence. At the end of 1975, Ford called Bush home to assume an even more delicate assignment that of director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Actually, in 1973, GHW had already served as the US Ambassador to the United Nations, (appointed in 1971) in those days a far more visible position than the CIA director was. UN Ambassadors got lots of face time on TV back then. People never talked about the CIA director back then.

If this woman had really talked to anyone about this, she would have said his old man was the UN Ambassador, not that he had some connection to the CIA which was at that point 2 years in the future.

Maybe the MSM researchers should start working in their PJs.

This afternoon word began spreading about yet another American with knowledge of George Bush's Guard horrors: Janet Linke, the widow of the pilot who took Bush's place in the 111th Air Guard near Houston. Her story first appeared in a small alternative, the Folio Weekly in Jacksonville, Florida.

This evening, reporters are calling. Janet Linke, an art teacher, said her husband was recruited to fill the slot abandoned by Bush. Jerry Killian, Bush's superior officer, told her Bush had grown afraid to fly.

Linke's husband was admitted to the Texas Guard in the summer of 1972 to replace Bush.

Is there any way to verify that Jan Peter Linke joined the TANG in summer 1972 (i.e. June or July or August)? Also, don't all pilots need to train for at least 1 year.

Killian has become a major figure in Bush's unfolding "Guardgate." CBS news anchor Dan Rather produced a memo signed by Killian saying he was pressured to sugarcoat Bush's service, among other things. A few days after the report, CBS backed off when other media questioned the veracity of the documents.

Note that there is no mention here of the words "fraud" or "forgery" - in fact, this tries to establish without evidence that Killian signed the forged memos. Utter Barbara Streisand!

The source is rotten, but the premise is not implausible, nor is it unusual or dishonorable. Flying a jet fighter, particularly one as cranky as an F-102, is stressful.
Landings would be the worst, as the things came down very fast.

It wouldn't be unusual that a pilot burned out and couldn't handle it anymore. It happens all the time I believe. It would be a wise commanding officer who recognized this.
