This could get ugly. That little paranoid Commie with the bad hair is probably going to see this as an act of aggression and do something really stupid.

Kerry would have enlisted the French and the UN to deploy their own destroyers to protect us.
To: truthandlife
I don't care how "costly" it is. Compared to the possible cost in American lives if we don't have a shield, $51 billion is chump change.

LATEST:
JDAMs also being delivered for massive pulverization of DPRK troops along the tripwire DMZ. (Open source.)
Pullback of actual ground troops. Readying for a merciless air war destruction of Kim Jong il's infrastructure in the first 72 hours, with additional obliteration of Kim Jong-il in his hardened, underground silos dug in with his foreign prostitutes, Chivas Regal and 10 years' supply of porno movies.

The best defense is a good offense. 10 megs is a lot cheaper than a missile shield, the cost of fueling dd's and supplying, never mind the cost man power. Stop wasting time, money and lives. Hit them so hard they can't get back up and if they do, it will be because we re-build them re:Japan.

It isn't just for the U.S. - it's also to help feed early warning data to the Japanese AEGIS systems. I doubt seriously if the NKs could hit Hawaii but I durn tootin' know they could hit Tokyo.

Hey North Korea:
Meet the US 7th fleet. They are the profane, mean, ornery, loveable, and full of fighting tradition. They are the best armed and best trained group of sailors the world has ever known. They have changed the course of civilization at least once.
Go ahead and make their day.
Signed:
A proud 7th Fleet veteran

That's not the way to deal with oriental despots John. You do what Bush is doing; say very little but surround them with love.

re: "In the first step toward erecting a multibillion-dollar shield"
I never cease to marvel at how the MSM spins EVERY sentence of every story to put George Bush in the worst light possible. In this case it's stressing the cost of the system, as though that's a consideration when deciding how to protect those around North Korea from the madness of its rogue leaders. They do so often, and with deftness, that I sometimes miss it completely. I showed this article to someone and asked if they saw any bias or spin in the first few sentences. Nope, seemed perfectly OK to them. The combination of 30 plus years of unrelenting liberal education in public schools and the press picking up where the schools leave off it's no wonder so many Americans have a difficult time seeing the huge gap between the candidates of the major parties. I say frequently, and repeat here to stress it, I am so thankful that I am in the last years of my life and not the first years. I would not want to grow up in the America that the left wants to support.

Maybe this is just Rumsfeld's way of saying "hello-ha" (it means howdy) to our North Korean friends. Would that Patriot system be of any use to Japan?
