ChartOne Inc., a California medical records provider, is closing its San Jose headquarters and shifting its operations to Irving and Massachusetts.

ChartOne joins a growing list of California companies relocating or expanding in the Metroplex. Others include beverage-vending machine manufacturer The Vendo Co., which will relocate to North Texas from Fresno, Calif., by December; Los Angeles-based 21st Century Insurance Group, which will bring as many as 1,300 new jobs to Lewisville by 2009; and Calabasas, Calif.-based Countrywide Mortgage, which plans to hire as many as 2,000 in Fort Worth and 1,000 in Plano over the next several years.
According to a recent report from Bain & Co., nearly 40% of California companies are planning to move jobs out of California in the future. Of those, 35% say they're exporting jobs to Texas -- more than all other 48 states combined. The balance of the California jobs are going to India, Asia and other international locations, the study found.

Yikes! The number has gone down since Guvenor arnie took over but that is still a very high number.
Poor Arnie cannot compete with Texas.

I switched to 21st from Progressive after finding out about who they were funding (21st is cheaper btw)
They aren't getting good employees either. I forsee a higher number of Socal companies leaving because employees can no longer afford housing, and workmen's comp reform still hasn't taken place.
There is a lot of new legislation coming down the line in CA that will make companies look harder at moving. Like mandatory health insurance for companies over 20 employees, and now mandatory same sex benefits if you offer spousal benefits.
