Indianapolis, Sept. 24 - A man suspected in the murder of a Butler University Police officer has been shot at 44th Street and Illinois.
Police were searching for a suspect in the fatal shooting of Officer James Davis. Davis was shot once in the head at 4600 Sunset just outside Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Indianapolis Public Schools had locked down Broad Ripple High School along with schools 43, 55, 70, 84 and 91. All Butler students and faculty were asked to remain in classrooms and residences and the nearby International School was also under lockdown. Those lockdowns have now been lifted.
Police say the officer had been investigating a suspicious person report around the time of the shooting. Davis was seen talking to a man outside the fieldhouse.
Authorities were looking for 31-year-old Kevin Williams. Officer Davis had called in a request for information regarding Williams moments before the incident.
The officer's weapon is missing. A witness reports seeing the man who had been talking to Davis bend down and pick up a gun as the officer was laying on the ground.
The shooting took place at 10:10 Friday morning.
The 31-year-old Davis joined the security force in January of 2003.
Prayers for the family.
word has it now they got the perp. shot the perp and wounded him, now in hospital in custody. local news said the perp was hanging around the Hinkle Fieldhouse ogling the girls sports team and this officer escorted him out, and then somehow the perp shot him right in the head, fled on foot, then was shot /apprehended in the neighborhood about 3 hours later...no other injuries reported.
Sad day at Butler. (I am an alum) Prayers for the family.
The Capt.
Kahdir Al Khattab.
Would it be politically incorrect to ask what type of name that is?
Gee whiz...sounds German to me! Probably a Lutheran boy.
Yesterday was scary in parts of Indianapolis.
