The cost to us of further alienating the Shiites in Iraq is far outweighed by the danger of Iran's nuclear weapons program.

No, not entirely new, but even under the onus of Marxist/Leninist philosophy, the Soviets and the US had a form of detente.
In spite of Kruschev's shoe pounding, it was understood that a major nuclear exchange would cause both sides grevious hurt.
Even "godless" Communists found that to be an unsavory option.
Iran has the complications of a majority religious component added to the matrix which espouses martyrdom and will use terrorism (taken to the point of unconventional warfare) without regard for loss of Iranian lives.
How do you intimidate an opponent who has no fear of death? Paint your Nukes with pigs' blood?
It is tough to play brinksmanship with those who do not recognize the brink.

I put it in mid-December.

"We wont risk this mission to blow up some buildings without taking out the folks that caused them to be built. The Iranian people are looking to be liberated. This event will be a catalyst for a revolution."
That's a fact.
To: Petronski
The big problem with this is that as soon as this happens, Iran will send swarms of Revolutionary Guard terrorists across the Iraqi border for major attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq. This isnt so cut and dry, it could get very tricky.

IMO, and GW Bush's I think, since he said it, terrorists must be eradicated. Governments that would harbor terrorists must either stop doing so, or face the same fate.
Or our cities will burn.

If Kerry gets elected I think Israel strikes before the year is out. If Bush is elected they may let us do the dirty work.
Nope. Whether Bush or Kerry, the IAF will be the MotherF'ers in Charge on this one. Israel is Target #1.

I would hope that Israel, or the US, had operatives within the country that could sabotage the design/construction process of these facilities and avoid the large scale military strike, but that may be wishing for too much, given the tight Iranian control over their people. Same thing applies to North Korea.

Iran has many agent here in the U.S. planning attacks. They will attack us on our own soil.

I agree. Sometimes it's good to let the media sleep, especially while Israel is doing her thing.

Israel WILL NOT let Iran go "Nukular". Iran would launch on Israel in a heartbeat...first strike from Iran assured.
When it comes to the destruction of Israel, the INTIRE Arab/Muslim world become instant a**hole buddies.

It might convert Iran from 55,000,000 pro-western and 5,000,000 Arabists to 60,000,000 Arabists overnight. Of course, many (if not most) in the Middle East (rightly or wrongly) see Israel as the 51st state of the US.
How will the Commonwealth of Independent States take to having their technicians attacked?
