The question of who sponsored the current proposal to resume the draft is beside the point. It's a simple question that deserves a straight answer: Will you resume the draft? Both candidates ought to answer it, and if Bush is caught off guard by not having a straight answer, then he's got problems.

I completely disagree with your "simple question". The current draft discussion is the product of a bill introduced by partisan politics and then promoted by a biased media. If your simple question were answered honestly it would probably be "At this time there are no plans to re-implement the draft". Only a fool would say never. But an honest answer is not what they seek, they are looking for a "read my lips" moment that they can attack. BTW remember when FDR said I will never send your sons to die in foreign lands--probably not an accurate quote but you get the jist of it.
