The business decisions I see here are Dingell, Hatch, Hollings and McCain because of their committees.
How disgustingly mercenary.
Matthew 619 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.
23 But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
At the risk of being off point, Steve Forbes was (and still is) a very articulate and well informed candidate, yet the press marginalized him by constantly referring to "millionaire Steve Forbes". Of course, no wealthy Democrat is ever referred to that way.
Facinating. I thought the timing of this "support" was suspicious.
I think he's just hedging his bets in case the network gets sued...that way he can say he would NEVER try to deliberately sway the election towards Kerry. cBS!!!
DAMAGE CONTROL...
For years Sumner Redstone has been abusing his power as CEO of a major communications and entertainment empire, to put forth the liberal agenda in the most positive light possible, while subtly undermining and denigrating conservatives. This is the same Sumner Redstone who is responsable for MTV's "Rock The Vote", Showtime's "Queer as Folk" and "The L Word", CBS News, Dan Rather and 60 Minutes.
Well guess what Sumner, I don't believe a word you say. You lost any credibility with me many years ago with your overtley obvious schilling for the left, vis a vis your sickningly biased presentation of the news. Why has FOX news been kicking you in the ass, news viewership wise? It's pretty simple really, your company long ago abandoned reporting the facts and instead promoted the Democratic party. You allowed your news organization to be filled with leftist writers, editors, producers and reporters. How long did you think we would stand and take it? The world was ripe for Rupert Murdoch and Fox News. If I can't get unbiased news from you or ABC or NBC, I'll be perfectly happy to get my biased news from conservatives. Now that you actually see some major damage to the Viacom empire as a result of your irresponable corporate stewardship, I'm sure that some of the shareholders have started giving you an earful. Do you really think you patch the torpedo hole in the S.S. Viacom by pretending that you are a Bush supporter? We're not as stupid as you think we are.
I happened to meet Steve Forbes this past June at his cousin's wedding. A very decent guy - much more human in real life. I think he had some very good ideas.
You're right - why don't they ever refer to Democrats who are millionaires as such ? God the press is so friggin' mainstream. I only woke up to this realization four years ago - maybe because I was a part of it for so long ?
You can't say that here.. people will think you don't support capitalism.

I should have read the entire thread first...
My mistake.
This is just PR BS. Symbolism over substance.
Lets see where the $$$$ donations are.
Redstone has been a powerbroker of the Fiberial elite for decades...don't fall for his BS.
I think there is more behind this announcement. The CBS boss knows that this will be highly touted in the media, and it will appeal a lot to the Dem base because here we go again, a big bad company, very rich again is in Bush's hip pocket. Just more campaign rhetoric designed to appeal to the base. Then you look deeper and see that all of Viacom's money goes to liberal causes and liberal politicians. But, we see right through it, don't wek?
Forbes is certainly an idea man and the country needs to hear from such people. (By the way, I saw his yacht the Highlander--its stunningly beautiful and maintained in "Bristol condition" as boaters say. Spotless.)
On a side note, I've never heard Ted Kennedy called a millionaire although he unquestionably is. You might enjoy reading Bernard Goldberg's books, Bias and Arrogance. He really exposes the dual standards of news coverage. He's got to be literally overflowing with ideas/evidence for the next book.
Not likely he would have endorsed President Bush if CBS had not imploded.
This is strictly a ploy to soften the pummeling the public is giving them, how Clintonesque.
I share some of the skepticism, but I consider it a victory.
It doesn't matter why he's saying it or whether he believes it or even follows it up in the voting booth. The fact is that the boss of Howard Stern, Dan Rather, and all the other Anybody But Bush Leaguers is saying he backs Bush and is doing so publicly. That's devastating to the other side. It's hugh and series!
