Public Burning of French Flag
Press Release, KOLE Fox News 1340 AM | 9-23-2004

PRESS RELEASE September 23, 2004

Burn Baby Burn

KOLE joins FOX’s Bill O’Reilly in his France Boycott

Beaumont, Texas – KOLE (News Radio FOX 1340/1380 AM) FOX Morning Blend host Dominick Brascia announced this morning on his radio show that he will burn the flag of France and will join Bill O’Reilly of FOX News in his effort to boycott France.

Brascia, along with co-hosts Debbie Wylde and Jeff Roberts, got angry after learning that, again, France was standing in the way of America’s War on Terrorism in Iraq. After putting together a list of all the problems America has had with its “alleged” friend, the idea of burning a flag from France in protest was born.

Listeners to the popular morning show (6am-9am, Mon-Fri) immediately called in favor of the burning. Brascia says the flag of France will be set ablaze at 8:25am on Thursday, September 30, 2004, in the front parking lot of KOLE News Radio FOX (27 Sawyer Street in Beaumont). Listeners are invited to watch the flag ‘Burn Baby Burn’.

Reasons stated for this protest are:

· France’s attempt to block, veto, and prevent regime change in Iraq.

· When President Reagan bombed Khadafy’s Libya after it sponsored terrorism that killed American soldiers, the French refused to allow US bombers to cross its airspace.

· The France bargain with the PLO in the 1970s that it would not arrest Arab terrorists using France as their base planning attacks on Israel and Jews so long as they did not engage in terrorism on French soil.

· The French did not stand with us when America went toe to toe with Castro during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Burning their flag sends the wrong message. Taking examples from the Middle East, burning a flag symbolizes hate, fear, and more than just a little envy. I don't hate, fear, or envy the French.

How do I feel about them? Well, it's mostly contempt mixed with condescending amusement. To properly symbolize this, I feel that it is better to toss a French flag on the ground and urinate on it, like a dog marking its territory. Best of all, everyone can join in on the protest without having to buy more flags! It's appropriate and economical!

Agreed. Dumb idea lowering themselves to Arab Street levels. I hate 'em too but burning their flag's over the top.

Boycott European goods and tourism. George Bush et al. dispelled the myth of our European "allies".

When I see the American flag being burned in other countries it's a guaranteed way to get attention. And then I think about the animals and scum of the earth that do things like that and I don't think Americans should take part in or condone that activity.

I'm all for not buying their products or visiting their foul cheese and B.O. smelling country though.

Boycott is fine, but no flag burning. We are above that.

I'll add if you really want to really annoy the French simply ignore them. It crushes all their self important illusions.

Funny story but I don't like that kind of stuff. We are clearly the party of decorum. Lets keep it that way.

Consider the source... this is Beaumont.
What do you expect?

Yeah, I was suggesting a boycott as a civilized alternative to flag-burning. Boycotting goods is largely impracticable, but at the very least, Americans should not be spending vacation dollars every summer in Europe.

I found this press release interesting and decided to post it, but I think it's a sad way to protest. Flag burning tends to put us on the level of Eurotrash or the American equivalent, the left wing protestors who resort to violence and stupidity to get their point across. I tend to enjoy boycotts most; we are able to exercise our freedom, take advantage of capitalism and get our point across rather effectively. :-)

Great idea, burn french flag ! And after what will you do ?
Kill frenchs. I don't think you are right. This is between ours leaders, when Chirac will go, because I hope he will not be re-elected, the situation will change, and Bush knows it.

This is just dumb. It is an idea only scum at DU would think funny. I am sure some of the French are not too bad and this is an insult which will do more harm than good.
I do not like the cheese eating surrender monkeys but this publicity ploy by some radio idiots is wrong.

Marie, a lot of Americans love French people and France. We are annoyed with Chirac and his Arabist comrades. We have a longstanding hobby that we practice called "animosity toward France" that goes back to the days when the Normans invaded England, but for the most part we are angry about a specific problem. When this fire happens, please understand that it embarasses and disgusts most of us. These people are fools.

In any case, it is freedom that binds us together, not our nations. The American flag stands for much, much more than America itself. I'm sure you feel that the French flag does as well. I denounce my fellow Americans who fail to recognize the symbolism in the French flag. They are not even as valuable as the ashes that will fall from their unworthy flag staffs.

When they burn the French flag, they won't realize that they are burning another symbol for man's highest aims. They'll only be thinking of their own selfish desires of the moment.

It is true that France has embittered us and forced us to mistrust it even more as of late. But I would drink a toast to the future when French people come to realize that America is defending them again in Iraq.

And we are. Help us spread the word!

Thank you for your post, I known Americans are not like these persons, burn a flag is terrible, I think when you saw your flag burned in Iran, you were sad and revolted, it's the same feeling for me. I prefer you boycot our goods. I am not against war in Irak, but here they always show on televison bad images all the days since the war began, and now frenchs think you made the wrong way. We can find the true on the web. I would like have a president like Bush, but infortunatly we have a guy, Chirac who is the best friend with all dictators, and now we have a bad reputation in the world.
