Did Kerry Lie about Attending the Signing of the Gulf-War Ceasefire
O'Reilly Factor ^ | 24 Sept 2004 | Rokke

Posted on 09/23/2004 9:18:29 PM PDT by Rokke

I just watched the rerun of O'Reilly's 2001 interview with Kerry discussing the need to invade Iraq. In that interview, Kerry said the following: "I mean, I was in Safwan. I went there when the signing of the armistice took place at the end of the war." I've watched the video of the cease-fire signing at Safwan. It was still in a combat zone. I don't remember seeing anyone but military officers. Can anyone provide additional insight, or has Kerry lied again.

I can't find a bloody thing that supports this claim. Perhaps it was a super-secret side trip as he returned from Christmas shopping in Cambodia.

There are no signs to say that you are in Safwan. Nantuket is near Safwan. He was definately underfire and near the border on March 11. Besides he ferried many CIA and Seals over the border in his private jet several times in April and May.

For the Record:
I have always stated that the most pathetic thing
about libs is not that they lie

but that they lie unto themselves

and far too many believe those lies...

the traitor is simply a shining example

March 10th, 2004 article, not 2001, or 1991 where we're looking for. Though the lack of mention of a previous visit is handy.

I am beginning to believe Kerry had no reason to get up and run to Iraq around March 1....usually senators travel in well publized groups. Plus March was a busy month and no reason in the world for a anti-war senator to travel to iraq while it is still dangerous on such a short notice and the need to rush back so not miss his March 6 vote.

Kerry was no where near Iraq on March 3!!!

Me thinks that Drudge has gotten quite a few tips about this now.

Yes, I know. My point was it made no mention of a previous trip to Iraq. Another article about Kerrys travel to Saudi Arabia mention when he was there previously.

:) Could be helpful re: previous visits. I'm still looking for references to March 1991 Senate delegation visits to Iraq. Is there any info regarding the committees on which sKerry sat in 1991?

That is what I was trying to imply. On Mar. 16, though, he doessay "Discussions with the congresssional delegation led by Congressman Ford." At which time, he says the main thing they were interested in was the performance of women in the military.

February 27, 1991 – meeting in Senate office with Sam Ginn, Pacific Telesis, and Ron Stowe (LDA).

If he was there in Safwan on March 3, 1991, he had to hury back for these meetings on the 6th:

March 6, 1991 – meeting in Senate office with Steve Roy and Jerry Warburg (LDA).

March 6, 1991 – meeting in Senate office with Bill Ferguson (LDA) and Jim Crain.

March 6, 1991 – meeting in Senate office with Bill Signer (LDA).

This is helpful:

Speech by Senator John Kerry on Persian Gulf Politics

On the floor of the US Senate, Wednesday, March 13, 1991

In this long diatribe not even the remotest mention that he was even near Iraq. This is important because if he had been there he most assuredly would have pontificated on it in this speech on the Senate floor.

2 March 1991 (Sat) - Kerry at "Brazil Night"
3 March 1991 (Sun) - Cease Fire Signed
5 March 1991 (Tue) - Kerry at National Democratic Institute dinner

Boston Globe Newspaper Mar 4, 1991

Saturday it was off to "Brazil Night" at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel ballroom for a sold-out party to benefit the Cambridge-based human rights group, Cultural Survival Inc., in conjunction with the Rainforest Alliance. Simple little black dresses were de rigueur at this party. But the most chic women took the reliable style and gave it a dramatic fashion twist. They wore understated black dresses that bared the shoulder, dipped into daring v's or somehow focused on the natural and impressive art of decolletage. They made headlines with their necklines. Meanwhile, Sen. John F. Kerry, an honorary committee member, breezed in and out of the black-tie gala in minutes. The subject of fashion/style seemed an enigma to him. Kerry, wearing a business suit, stayed only long enough to accept a gift: a tin of candy called Rainforest Crunch.

The Washington Post Company Mar 6, 1991:

Lessons of Democracy, Part 1: "You can't behave like a jackass after the election and hope to be elected the next time."

Czechoslovakia's Ambassador Rita Klimova was talking about the fledgling democrats (little d) back home who are just learning the ABCs of freedom and democracy. If the Democrats (big D) at the National Democratic Institute's dinner picked up a few tips ... well, it can't hurt.

Last night's refresher course at the Mayflower Hotel was officially a celebration of democracy across the globe. The Washington-based institute, which gives foreign countries hands-on guidance with elections and the basics of parliamentary procedure, drew a mob of high-profile Democrats including former vice president Walter Mondale, Mike Mansfield, Andrew Young, Speaker of the House Tom Foley (Wash.), Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell (Maine), Sens. Al Gore (Tenn.), Edward Kennedy (Mass.), John Kerry (Mass.) and Chuck Robb (Va.), D.C. Mayor Sharon Pratt Dixon and more than 30 current ambassadors to the United States.

This is amazing. And no media personages have bothered to look into this? That, I guess, is the REALLY amazing thing.

I can find no evidence to support his claim. That doesn't mean it isn't out there, just that I haven't found a scintilla of evidence.
