LOS ANGELES Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced Wednesday that Henry Cisneros, a former housing secretary in the Clinton administration, will serve as national chairman of his charity that supports after-school programs.
"Providing after-school programs for all children by the year 2010 continues to be one of my most important priorities," the governor said in a statement. "I am very grateful that Henry Cisneros has agreed to serve as chairman."
Schwarzenegger has promoted after-school programs for years, and his After-School All-Stars pays for sports and educational programs for poor and minority children in 15 cities. Its major financial sponsors include Hummer and the Todd Wagner Foundation. Cisneros' position as chairman is unpaid.
Cisneros, chairman of American City Vista and Pacific City Homes, served as secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 1993 to 1997. After leaving the Clinton White House, he became president of the Spanish language television network Univision.
Cisneros also was among leading Democrats last year who honored Schwarzenegger's father-in-law, Sargent Shriver, at a dinner in Beverly Hills. More recently, he has been campaigning on behalf of fellow Democrat John Kerry.
Once considered a rising political star, Cisneros saw his fortunes slip after admitting during a background check for his cabinet position that he lied about payments he had made to a former mistress.
See my post #3... it looks like Government funding to me! And that is just from California.
With Cisneros appointed, criticism is appropriate, IMO.
Budget includes over $284 million in State and federal funds to provide before and after school enrichment programs for 275,000 children.BTW... Welcome to Free Republic! :-)
Seems those in the two beltway parties take care of each other. This article makes that clear.
Ummmm... no. I'm not. They have been receiving funding, and with Proposition 49, and the recent inclusion of additional funds ($284,000,000) in California's budget, I assume they will receive quite a bit more.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's Inner-City Games Foundation Awarded Federal FundingCDC Division of Adolescent and School Health Enters Into Cooperative Agreement to Promote Youth Participation in Physical Activity
Santa Monica, CA - Thursday, December 13, 2001 - The Inner-City Games Foundation (ICGF), an organization comprised of 15 City-cites dedicated to year-round, after-school and summer programming for at-risk youth ages 7 to 17, today announced that it has entered into a Cooperative Agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The agreement serves to promote the importance of youth participation in physical activity for 10 ICGF City-sites, including: Atlanta, Columbus, Detroit, Houston, Las Vegas, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Diego and San Jose. As one of eight organizations to receive funding from the CDC Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH), the Inner-City Games Foundation welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with both local and national, governmental and non-governmental organizations to collectively strengthen the focus on physical activity and work to guarantee a brighter, healthier future for America's youth.
After-School All-Stars grew out of Inner-City Games, an initiative founded in Los Angeles in 1991 to positively influence and inspire at-risk children and youth. In 1995, Arnold Schwarzenegger founded the Inner-City Games Foundation to expand the program nationwide. The name was changed to After-School All-Stars in July 2003.
Cisneros is a co-chair? Well, that figures. He and Kerry have so much in common....
Don't worry I won't vote for this phoney again even if It means I have to vote for a RAT to get him out of office. He is a total disappointment .
At least it keeps Cisneros out of Texas.
I agree. While I won't vote for a Dem, I certainly won't vote for Arnold again. I was opposed to the recall and only wound up voting for him in the first place because I didn't want to see Bustamante get elected.
I actually met Cisneros once when he was still mayor of San Antonio, TX. He was honored on the CNN Club back in the early 80's (boy what a crock!) for being a spiritual leader with fundamental values (ack, barf). Anyway, he seemed to be likable and was very pleasant to talk to. It's a shame he did what he did, but we all makes mistakes myself included.
