The United Nations and all its agencies and funds spend about $10 billion each year, or about $1.70 for each of the world's inhabitants. This is a very small sum compared to most government budgets and it is just a tiny fraction of the world's military spending. Yet for over a decade, the UN has faced a debilitating financial crisis and it has been forced to cut back on important programs in all areas. Many member states have not paid their full dues and have cut their donations to the UN's voluntary funds. As of June 30, 2004, members arrears to the Regular Budget topped $1.052 billion, of which the United States alone owed $557 million (53% of the regular budget).

What is "the British budget" & "the US budget"?
I think you'll find that the numbers refereed to the UN budget, if they referred to the US & UK GDP's or public sector spend, we'd all be paying a lot more.
Fact is, the US contributes around 22% or the budget and the UK around 5.4%. If the budget was, lets say, 1 billion dollars, the US would be paying $220,000,000 and the UK $54,000,000. The population of the USA is approx' 290 million & the population of the UK is around 59 million. Therefore, the US would be paying around 76 cents per American, while the UK would be paying around 92 cents per Brit.
Thus, we are getting shafted worse than you (if you leave aside the humiliation of having the likes of Mugabe applauded for slagging you off in your own back yard which is appalling)
