Mugabe draws cheers at the UN
Mail & Guardian (South Africa) ^ | September 23, 2004 | Staff

Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe, long a thorn in the side of the United States and Britain, drew applause at the United Nations on Wednesday for a scathing speech that tore into the Iraq war allies.

Mugabe blasted the two nations for holding up the reform of the UN Security Council in "calculated" attempts at trying to preserve their influence at the UN.

"Ironically, it is some of the same forces that since last year have been raining bombs and hellfire on innocent Iraqis, purportedly in the name of democracy," he said.

"Iraq today has become a vast inferno created by blatant and completely illegal and defiant acts of aggression by the United States, Britain and their allies," Mugabe said.

"We are now being coerced to accept and believe that a new political-cum-religious doctrine has arisen, namely that 'There is but one political god, George Bush, and Tony Blair is his prophet,'" he said.

That line, a play on a well-known saying of Islamic prayer, drew applause from diplomats gathered at the UN General Assembly for the annual two-week debate of world leaders.

Mugabe also condemned Britain's work for his ouster, including sanctions against his country.

"Zimbabwe has also had to withstand unprovoked, declared and undeclared sanctions, imposed by Britain and its allies who are bent on bringing down our legitimately elected government," he said.

"Mr Tony Blair, the British prime minister, has arrograntly and unashamedly announced in his Parliament that his government was working with Zimbabwe's oppositionparty to bring about regime change," he said.

"Once again, the lawless nature of this man who, along with his Washington master, believes he is God-ordained to rule our world, has shown itself," Mugabe said. - Sapa-AFP

Remember that our other ally - Japan - also gives an inordinate amount, and do not even sit on the Security Council.

Interesting...

UN scale of assessments (regular budget) in 2001

USA 22 %
Japan 19.628 %
Germany 9.493 %
France 6.283 %
United Kingdom 5.380 %
Italy 4.922 %
Canada 2.573 %
Spain 2.448 %
Brazil 1.702 %
Netherlands 1.688 %
Australia 1.604 %
Korea, Republic of 1.318 %
Russia 1.200 %
Belgium 1.098 %
Sweden 0.998 %

So the US is paying 22% of the budget and GB 5.38%. So per head of population, each British taxpayer is paying more than you Americans!

And you reckon you're getting the shaft!

Of course Japan is the one really stumping up but then they've got a lot to make up for haven't they.

I suppose the USA has the added indignity of having to host this gang of communists on it's own soil as well as it's financial contribution.

Mugabe attacks Bush and Blair at UN General Assembly

23.09.2004
1.00pm - By ANNE PENKETH in New York

Robert Mugabe added a new dimension to his criticism of Britain yesterday when he accused the US president and British prime minister of establishing a new "political-cum-religious" doctrine: "there is one political god, George W. Bush, and Tony Blair is his prophet."

The Zimbabwe president's comment, in a speech to the UN General Assembly, was wildly applauded by delegates from developing countries who share his fear of the effects of the global dominance of the United States and its western allies.

"The UN charter remains the only most sacred document and proponent of the relations of our nations. Anything else is political heresy," he protested, after accusing the US and Britain of tearing up the UN charter to rain "bombs and hellfire on innocent Iraqis purportedly in the name of democracy."

The Zimbabwean president complained that his country had been subjected to "unprovoked, declared and undeclared sanctions, imposed by Britain and its allies who are bent on bringing down our legitimately elected government."

Zimbabwe is organising elections in March next year but there are fears that, like the last presidential poll which re-elected Mr Mugabe, they will not be free and fair.

"Mr Tony Blair, the British prime minister, has arrogantly and unashamedly announced in his parliament that his government was working with Zimbabwe's opposition party to bring about regime change. Once again, the lawless nature of this man who, along with his Washington master, believes he is God-ordained to rule our world, has shown itself," the president went on.

Mr Mugabe was also applauded when he departed from his prepared speech to say: "We do not need any lessons from the Netherlands and its imperialist allies of the European Union" on organising the elections.

"Zimbabwe will indeed welcome to these elections those observers whose sole and undivided purpose will be to observe the process and not to meddle in the politics of the country."

Apparently addressing his domestic audience, he pointed out that despite the "sanctions and evil wishes of Britain and its allies", Zimbabwe had now emerged from a difficult period of drought.

What good is a UN that favors dictators over constitutional, democracy-sustaining republicanism?

So we own the UN I see. Let's sell it off for all it's parts and put up the assets to World Wide Islamists in America and the ACLU while we're at it...

"...no wonder representatives of most of its constituent members enthusiastically applaud one of their own!"

Ouch!

Unfortunately,at least here in Oz,the UN seems to be the 'be all and end all' for far too many folks. They seem to be seen as some sort of 'lets all just get along' party,to put it rudely.A big global village party at which America is seen as a gatecrasher.

Interesting times we live in.

God bless

Isn't there some way we can just wait until they're all gathered and cut the UN building loose to drift out to sea?

Waste of a good building. Find some other way to get rid of them. ;-)

This mudering communist cannibal deserves only a slow painful death.

Thank Jimmy Carter and Andrew Young for his despotic conquest of Rhodesia.

After Robert Mugabe is done throwing out all the white farmer families off their land , and killing any that resisted this brutal uncompensated, inhumane eviction , he is even allowed in to the USA ? Seems like this racist tyrant should be at the top of a terrorist watch-list !
Why not invite all those Rhodesian farmers that were thrown off their land to migrate to the USA? Vast and vacant farm lands await
the motivated here , and they will never be evicted after investing generations of labor and love into their land.

This article is proof positive (again!) that the so-called United Nations really doesn't deserve to call NYC and the USA home base any longer. It should be invited to some place in Europe instead . It has become little more than a forum for the corrupt and putrid, hypocritical ,American hating ,
anti-Freedom camp. Give them all the boot .
