Father shocked by teenage daughter's suicide bombing

The ailing father of a Palestinian teenager collapsed in shock Wednesday when reporters brought him the news that his daughter blew herself up in a suicide bombing in Jerusalem that killed two.

Ali Abu Salem, 48, who suffers from a heart condition, fell speechless to a couch in the comfortably furnished two-story family home, while his wife, Sahar, wailed at the news of what their 18-year-old daughter Zayneb had done.

"Why, why is this happening to us," Sahar asked, her eyes full of tears.

An ambulance later arrived to take the distraught father to a Nablus hospital. Relatives said he appeared to be suffering from shock.

Fatah's Aksa Martyrs' Brigades claimed responsibility for Zayneb's attack.

A member of the group in Nablus told The Associated Press that Zayneb volunteered for a suicide attack, saying she wanted to avenge Palestinians killed recently by Israeli troops in Nablus.

"She said that if we refused, she would attack an army post with a knife," the Aksa member said. "So we organized quickly. We set up the attack within 17 hours and we chose this site in Jerusalem because we know it." The intersection, a few kilometers away from Ramallah, is a frequent target for Palestinian attacks.

He said that despite a closure of the West Bank during the holiday season and numerous IDF roadblocks along the road, Zayneb evaded detection and covered the 50 kilometers from Askar to Jerusalem in 45 minutes.

Her family and friends said the unmarried teen, who graduated from high school last year, was not a political or religious activist, but Ali's cousin, Hanis Abu Salem, was an Aksa gunman, killed in a shootout in Askar last year.

Zayneb was one of 11 children living at home with their parents. A married sister lives nearby.

Police and witnesses said Zainab was carrying a bag packed with between 3 and 5 kilograms of explosives as she headed for a crowded bus stop on Jerusalem's northern edge.

She set off the charge when two border policemen, whose suspicions were aroused, approached her and blocked her path.

Palestinian terrorists have staged more than 100 suicide bombings inside Israel during four years of fighting. Women have carried out at least eight of the attacks.

Most of the women were tied to the Aksa group, although the Islamic groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad have also dispatched women.

Some counterterrorism experts have speculated that the terrorist groups have turned to using women because they raise less suspicion among Israeli soldiers.

Well, uh, see, my dear, it's like this. The PA pumps this incessant river of bitter hatred directed against Israel and America over the Palistinian airwaves and TV, glorifying suicide and death, and impressionable young minds, raised in a spiritual environment fostered by the intellectual repression of Islam, with the tacit endorsement of their goofy parents and community ... well, you have situations like this.

So start a revolution. Overthrow Arafat and the Palistinian Authority. Or keep burying your kids. Pick one.
