"Presidential race - good news.
Senate race - bad news. "

Colorado Electoral College proportional vote proposal - bad news

If a good majority will elect Bush in Colorado, why will they also vote to give 40% of their electoral votes to Kerry?

The Constitution clearly grants power to make the allocation of a states electoral votes to a states legislature. In Colorado, amendment proposal 36 attempts to make that choice through ballot initiative. IMHO, that is unconstitutional. And frankly, quite stupid too boot! It would weaken the influence of small states. Something the Founders were dead set against.

God, how I wish W poll numbers would be 50+ all across the the country! I was surfing the clymer channels this evening and I noticed how much airtime Lurch is getting compare to W! The WHORESanchors keep telling the audience how much Lurch has picked up momentum, and he is on offensive slaughtering W ...blah, blah, blah...in this past week. Giving him a good lift and a good week without having to defend the basta**! I pray W staff isn't asleep at the wheel this evening! They need to speak loud and clear against the reinstating DRAFT lie, Lurch and his staff are footing out! If W staff continues to be silent on this matter the LIE will eventually stick to W...NOT GOOD!I'm afraid it's beginning to take root...Not GOOD!

It was placed on the ballot through the collection of enough signatures. If it receives enough votes to pass, it will be immediately challenged and I predict will be overturned. As I said, the power resides with a states legislature and NOT through a ballot referendum.

There is a VERY serious question on the ballot.

Do you want porportional electoral college votes.

The public needs to be educated to the danger of voting FOR proportional electoral college votes.

CO freepers, talk to everyone you know about the importance of this questions.

Some recent threads on Colorado polling numbers have shown a small lead for the President. Never thought those polls offered honest data. 51% for Bush sounds moree like it. Btw, Pete Coors is gonna beat Salazar too.

I agree with you. There are lots of Kerry signs and stickers in actual Denver but the suburbs are solidly Bush. I am see more and more "W04" ovals in car windows, too. I think Coors will win here as well.

The Senate poll is actually better than it has been in other polls. Coors has pulled even.

They are challenging it but what is really amazing is that the Colorado Dems aren't for it, either. I just can't see it passing with NO one (other than the jerk that got the petitions signed) voting for it. Usually around here, once people start paying attention to the ballot initiatives, they see through such junk.

"I'm really dizzy with all these numbers."

Hey me too. I'm starting to feel like the night before my wedding! Sometimes excited, sometimes a little worried. It's only Sep't. for crying out loud!

These numbers are definitely encouraging--at the moment.

Thanks for the ping!

This is Bush country and he will wallop JFnK here in Colorado. End of story.

AS FOR KEN SALAZAR.
Here is a true story:

Ken Salazar's office just paid off a toxic waste whistle-blower to keep his mouth shut forever about CSU burying toxic waste in Fort Collins. The settlement amount cannot be disclosed, but it was somewhere in the mid 6-figure range. That is a fact! I know the whistle-blower and was told before it came down that he would not settle for less than half a million.

Here is the part of the story that really gets my goat: The toxic waste was NEVER dug up to this day, and no one was ever punished at CSU for putting it there. (Can anyone spell Erin Brochovitch?) Ken Salazar's office, our AG, has done nothing to clean up the mess of the bureaucrats he defended in court.

This is all in the public court records, and the soil test proof is also in the court documents. No Bull.

We cannot allow TOXIC KEN to be our Senator. Spread his new nickname far and wide.

All the Best,

Freepers in Colorado need to tell their friends to vote against the unconstitutional Amendment 36 that will be on the ballot. It would change the allocation of Electoral College votes from winner-take-all to proportional. The campaign is being funded by weathy interests in California. I wonder why they don't propose the same type of amendment to be passed by a state-wide referendum in California?

It is unconstitutional, because it is a referendum. The constitution very specifically says that the state legislatures, and only the state legislatures have the authority to determine the method by which electors are chosen! The Colorado legislature very specifically rejected such a system.

As long as large states like California, New York and Texas do not change from a winner take all system, it is not in the interest of small states like Colorado to do so.

I also don't want to forgot to mention that it also violates the federal election code. The method by which the electors is selected must be in place before (as I recall at least six days prior to) the date the electors are chosen which is election day. Even if the a referendum were a valid mechanism of determining the method of allocating electors, this referendum is too late to affect the 2004 election. This referendum should be fought in court and removed from the ballot.

Article II.

Section 1
The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice-President chosen for the same Term, be elected, as follows:

Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.
