Soldiers Killed in Separate Attacks

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Sept. 22, 2004 -- Two American soldiers have died in Iraq today in separate attacks.

A Task Force Danger soldier was killed when anti-Iraqi forces attacked a combat patrol using an improvised explosive device near Tikrit at about 9:15 a.m. today. A Task Force Olympia soldier died at a military hospital in Mosul from injuries suffered in an earlier attack.

The names of the soldiers killed are being withheld pending notification of their families. No other soldiers were reported injured in either attack.

Elsewhere in Iraq, two Iraqi civilians, an adult and a child, were wounded Sept. 21 after their vehicle attempted to overtake a 1st Infantry Division patrol on a road southwest of Samarra.

The soldiers unsuccessfully tried to stop the vehicle, which was being driven erratically and at a high rate of speed as it approached the patrol.

Warning shots were fired, but the vehicle continued to approach the patrol and was engaged by the soldiers. The injured civilians were evacuated to a multinational medical treatment facility.

Also on Sept. 21, 1st Cavalry Division officials announced charges have been preferred against two Task Force Baghdad soldiers in the deaths of three Iraqis.

Sgt. Michael P. Williams and Spc. Brent W. May, members of Company C, 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, Fort Riley, Kansas, have been charged with premeditated murder, according to a news release. Williams was also charged with obstruction of justice and making a false official statement.

Specific events relating to these charges cannot be discussed at this time, officials said, because of the Army Criminal Investigation Command's ongoing investigation.

God is nigh.

I am praying for their families and all of our military. I continue to pray for the evil doers that they will change their evil ways and turn to God.

Not much help. (Accusers abound these days):

 CENTCOM

- The Soldiers are only charged at this point; they are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.

The specific events relating to these charges cannot be discussed at this time because of the Army Criminal Investigation Division’s on-going investigation.

For more information, contact Maj. Philip Smith at the First Cavalry Division Public Affairs Office at philip.j.smith1@us.army.mil.
