Memo Lawyer is Party Activist
The Washington Times ^ | 9-22-04 | Rowan Scarborough

The attorney for the man who leaked discredited memos to CBS News' Dan Rather is a Democratic Party activist in Texas who has vowed to defeat what he says is a White House "master plan" for "a one-party America." David Van Os, a San Antonio lawyer and defender of retired Texas Air National Guard Lt. Col. Bill Burkett's role in supplying forged memos detrimental to President Bush, has held a number of local party posts, including chairman of the Travis County Democratic Party. Mr. Van Os referred to the suspect memos this way in a Sept. 15 e-mail to reporters: "What difference would it make" if "someone in the year 2004 had prepared on a word processor replicas of documents that they believed had existed in 1972 or 1973?"

When the word got out that the "fake docs" had been faxed from a Kinko's in Abilene, just about everyone there must have known how they got to Dan Rather. David Van Os is the lawyer for Bill Burkett (the memo guy). Van Os is a former chairman of the Travis County Democratic Committee. Robin Rather (Dan's daughter) is now (or just was) Vice-Chairman of the Committee. This is where Rather got in trouble several years ago for speaking at a Travis County Democratic fund raiser hosted by Will Wynn, a big party contributor.

If I were Burkett I'd start shopping around for a lawyer that understood forgery and its implications a little bit better than this.

Not only that, Burkett's new lawyer, Gabe Quintanilla, is the Bexar County Democratic Chairman. Also, Quintanilla faced off against Van Os in a lawsuit not long ago. Somethin' ain't right in Texas.

what he says is a White House "master plan" for "a one-party America."

If anyone is responsible for this shift toward a "one-party America", it is Bill and Hillary...

Burkett is former Army Nat'l Guard, not Air Guard. Scarborough's usually better than that on facts.

Found this photo after a Google search for Robin Rather. Does anyone know if Jean Rather is Mrs. Dan Rather?

Jean and Robin Rather

Found them on a list of donors at this site. If you visit this site, you'll notice a photo of Lady Bird Johnson at the top. Seems to me that Lady Bird is/was the owner of an Austin based radio and TV station. Can anyone confirm this, and if so, is the Austin station owned by Lady Bird Johnson a CBS affiliate?

Burkett and his ilk are still insisted to be "Unimpeachable" but since the fellow who outed the fraud is a Republican, the substance of the forgeries are true.

And these people still maintain they're objective?

When I saw the phrase "party activist" I decided to skip the article since I assumed it was about Dan Rather.

"What difference would it make," [if] "someone in the year 2004 had prepared on a word processor replicas of documents that they believed had existed in 1972 or 1973?"

Hoo doggie! I think I hit the $240M Powerball in '72, and the following year I was awarded two Medals of Honor. I have the documents to prove it...just wait 'til the ink dries!

If you have the printed copy of the Washington Times article (22 Sep 04) and refer to the article on page A13 the picture that goes with this article is from Van Os web site at http://www.vanosforsupremecourt.com/photo_album/vanos_album_09.jpg

Notice on Max Cleland's right lapel the two emblems. The pin closest to Van Os appears to be an emblem of a US Army Special Forces shoulder patch (Special Forces tab with Arrowhead patch).

Anyone have any knowledge of Cleland being a Special Forces guy? Kind of surprising that he'd be wearing that pin unless someone gave it to him as a gift.

Otherwise, might be a little more Democrat medal fraud in the making.
