WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader lashed out at Democrat John Kerry on Tuesday, accusing him of supporting a legal campaign to keep the longtime consumer advocate off the November ballot.
"He's in control of the party now, so he's responsible," Nader said at a news conference. "He could put a stop to it, just like Bush could have put a stop to the whole Swift Boat [Veterans for Truth] thing."
Nader, in a wide-ranging critique of the Democratic nominee, also accused Kerry of taking liberals for granted, of not having a strategy for removing U.S. troops from Iraq, of not placing enough minority members in key positions within his campaign and, echoing his 2000 Green Party presidential bid, of presiding over a party that has become dominated by corporate interests.
"The Democratic Party, under the influence of its corporate supremacists, is a gutless, spineless, clueless and hapless party and needs to be challenged by liberal Democrats," Nader said.
The tongue-lashing marked something of a turning point for Nader, who had focused much of his fire on President Bush.

I have to disagree with Nader on one point...Kerry is NOT in charge of the Dem party...we know who is(are).
I sure the democrats are simply trying to keep Nader from dis-enfranchsing black voters.
So Nader's upset that Kerry might act as a spoiler?
Somewhere Richard Nixon is smiling.
Kerry's actions give direct credibility to Nader's idea that DC is full of insiders who operate in line with their own agenda and who don't want insiders to come in and upset the boat.
oops...they don't want OUTsiders to come in and rock the boat...
Hey Nader, haven't you heard. President Bush does not have anything to do with the SwiftVets. Dummy. If you are going to start spinning with lies, it's going to hurt you.
Where's that "offical seal of the Democratic Party" image?
BTTT
I would also disagree that Bush could/should have stopped the Swifties...
It's not just Nader's "idea". It's the reality.
On top of that, Nader isn't really that much of an outsider anyway.
If I thought I could stomach it without going insane, I'd go volunteer for Nader.
Let's hope he takes 3% of the loonies away from Kerry. Ross Perot on the other side of whacko.
"I have to disagree with Nader on one point...Kerry is NOT in charge of the Dem party...we know who is(are)."
Shhhh.... don't mention her name.
But this can't be. Democrats want all the votes counted and that the will of the people shouldn't be suppressed (except for FL panhandle residents and military ballots and Nader)
Nader is almost as great a loon as Kerry: there is no way under Heaven that President Bush could have stopped the Swifties from speaking, or kept this site and others from making certain they got heard.
