September 22, 2004 -- The "60 Minutes" producer on CBS's story that used phony National Guard documents is the subject of an internal investigation for arranging contact between the network's source and a top aide to John Kerry, officials said yesterday. It is believed that veteran producer Mary Mapes facilitated a phone call between Bill Burkett, a former Texas Army National Guard officer who supplied the Guard documents to CBS, and Kerry adviser Joe Lockhart. The move would be a clear breach of ethics that could cost Mapes her job.

Lee said the general managers of CBS stations across the country have been bombarded with complaints from viewers since the initial "60 Minutes" telecast.
"I've heard from affiliates from coast to coast and almost without exception we have taken a real roasting [from viewers] throughout this whole process," he said.

Meanwhile, a Post photographer snapped Rather leaving his Upper East Side home yesterday flanked by two security guards. One was a supervisor for CBS security and the other was a retired Rikers Island corrections officer. A CBS spokeswoman bristled when asked about them.
"Mr. Rather has no bodyguards," snapped Rather's spokeswoman, Kim Akhtar, after eyeballing the pictures. "There have been absolutely no threats against him."

Rather's colleague, "60 Minutes" commentator Andy Rooney, defended the anchor yesterday dur- ing an appearance on Don Imus' radio show.
"He gives the impression of falseness sometimes that does not exist in his character," said Rooney. "I think he is a first-class guy, a good guy and an honest guy. And yet, there is something about the way he behaves sometimes that makes people suspicious of him, and it's too bad." http://www.nypost.com/news/nationalnews/29009.htm

If CBS thinks more forgeries will trump trying to push the original forgeries on the American people, they're idiots. In fact, whatever they come up with now will look mean spirited.
They're in a hole, they need to stop digging.
It's time for resignations, apologies, and a token conservative on staff. Only then will the healing process will begin...
Thank you! And even owning up to those things is not enough. An apology to the President would not be enough. What CBS & Kerry Campaign did is a crime and I fear that issue will be ignored. There will be no follow-through and both organizations will skate. Zell Miller said on Hannity's radio program yesterday that someone should go to jail for this; he's right. Has anyone heard if this will be pursued?
Depends on what your definition of "honest" is.
I think the same was true of Al Capone.....
Viacom lie debunked here on Snopes.com
Dan Rather is a CONSTANT reminder for the sheeple NOT to TRUST what the MSM says......:)
The MSM and the Demoncrat Party are Partners in Crime.
"He gives the impression of falseness sometimes that does not exist in his character," said Rooney."
Well, I'm glad Andy has cleared this one up. It's all been a mistake, guys. Andy says Dan just radiates falseness!
(/sarcasm off)
Let's pretend ...
Brit Hume on FNC ran a piece ...
1. Kerry got an dishonorable discharge
2. Brit waved around the discharge papers
3. O'Neill was a guest saying Kerry was a traitor and got kicked out of the Army
4. Brit had cleared the story with Bartlett who said he checked with the Navy and the papers looked OK to him.
Then oops ... the papers were forgeries. A couple of weeks later, Brit says sorry, my news producer made a simple mistake. We call the Bush campaign all the time for info.
So I would assume the MSM would chalk it all up as 'it was just an honest mistake'. Welcome back Brit, and way to go FNC. High fives all around for the way you handled the crisis.
Don't you just love it.
and no one has threatened to dump wet spaghetti on him and no one has screamed obscenities over his ridiculous lies and NO ONE, NO ONE has accused him of being a commie pinko. NO ONE.
absolutely not.
