Democratic angst over Kerry: Mary Beth Cahill tries to soothe nerves; ‘Naturally, I’m worried’

Sen. John Kerry dispatched campaign chairwoman Mary Beth Cahill to Capitol Hill on yesterday to a meeting with Senate Democrats who expressed anxiety about a string of recent campaign developments.

“We were worried after the convention,” said Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.). “We’re doing fine. Naturally, I’m worried.”

Durbin acknowledged that Democrats were anxious but said Cahill’s message to Democrats was upbeat. He noted that the campaign had succeeded in securing three presidential debates through negotiations with Bush campaign officials.

Durbin said that after a difficult August, when the Kerry campaign stayed off the air to conserve money because of campaign spending limits, “we do have the resources” to compete head to head with President Bush. And, Durbin said, “polls in all the battleground states are all very close.”

Mr. McCurry said that Mr. Lockhart had approached Mary Beth Cahill, Mr. Kerry's campaign manager, in the last few days to tell her that he had had a brief telephone conversation with Mr. Burkett. Ms. Cahill, he said, told Mr. Kerry, who did not think anything needed to be done in response.

Calling in Team Clinton to save Kerry is like allowing the Captain of the Titanic to re-arrange your deck chairs.

Byrd said he has advised Kerry: “Stick with the common people. Get a little dirt under his fingernails. Get it in his nostrils. Get it on his hair.”

Chances are that sKerry couldn't be persuaded to let his valet get a little dirty in proxy.

This article ranks in the 90s on the unintentional comedy scale:

“Look at the record. We’re defending a Silver Star recipient against a damned draft dodger,” he said, referring to Bush’s service in the National Guard. Still, Hollings expressed hope that the Kerry campaign would be able to focus more attention on Bush’s record as president, rather than on Vietnam-era controversies....

Byrd said he has advised Kerry: “Stick with the common people. Get a little dirt under his fingernails. Get it in his nostrils. Get it on his hair.”

This stuff is hilarious!

Once again the Dems are under the impression that this will save Kerry. A more likely scenario is a complete drubbing by Bush.

Click here Burkett said he wanted to advise the Democrats on how to respond to the questions being raised about Kerry's own military record. To that end, he also was able to get former Sen. Max Cleland, a Kerry confidante, and ex-presidential candidate Howard Dean on the phone over the last 45 days.

How did he manage that?

With the screamer dean added in that's HIGH PLACED kerry/dnc operative number THREE to have their paw prints on Rathergate.

This could be much bigger than Watergate before it's over!

Geez, I thought Burkett needed CBS's help to contact the Kerry campaign.

A rare mistake by the President's team. They should have demanded to a once-a-day debate schedule. Becasue every time Kerry is before the American people, his poll numbers drop like a stone.

Yeah me too. Sounds like water lapping at their feet as the good ship SS Kerry heads for a rendezvous with the fishes.

The Democrats can't face reality. In the past 20 years, ALL major Democractic campaigns going down to defeat were all run by WOMEN:

1988 Dukakis
2000 Gore
2004 Kerry (yes, he'll lose BIGTIME)

It's ironic that the feminazis in the Democratic party are contributing to its national demise so directly.

" Cahill wants to see all of us being as aggressive as we can. We surrogates and others need to get out,” (Corzine) added."

This comment strikes me as ironic given that the less-agressive Cahill just lost her job to the more-agressive Lockhart.
