IIRC, the Russian contingent in Kosovo was from their "elite" airborne forces.

Honestly, I don't recall. I was hanging with 101st guys. What I saw though was typical.

LOL!!!

It's a parliamentary style of government, and free elections happen routinely.

Weak arguments betray your absolute lack of education.

We use volunteers exlcusively in the USA, so our numbers are quite small compared to the national population. Constription by Russia, on the other hand, could result in a huge force, though it would be a svery significant porion of the Russian population. If the "federation" rebuilds itself as a Soviet, then the fodder pool grows greatly.

Did the Russians have striped t-shirts?

Problem is, the Kosovo contingent was from the airborne forces--the best-trained troops in the Russian Army (the airborne divisions all have the "Guards" honorific).

I know intelligent, successful and highly trained people who smoke "reefer" too or are womanizing. I guess that the concept of military discipline can differ from one culture to another. (I heard about some problems in US or West European military too). You test soldiers during the actual fight, not when they are iddle and bored.

PUTIN SUSPENDED THE ELECTIONS...spin your little commie apologist trick anyway you want it, but it doesn't change that FACT.

No one in the US has suspended elections.

Go back to Russia where things are more to your liking.

Your ridiculous post is laughable.

It's hard to feel "elite" when a rifleman's pay is $50/month while the average salary is $250. So they make 1/5th average. A US GI makes around $18K to average pay of $36k, so they make 1/2. Increase the pay and get better results, amazing how that works. But hay, I give them credit for paying anything. The conscripts get enough for a bottle of vodka once per month.

Giving us one hell of a conscription pool should we need to do so.

Constription by Russia, on the other hand, could result in a huge force, though it would be a svery significant porion of the Russian population.

Which means that the force in question would have no depth--replacements would NOT be available.

If the "federation" rebuilds itself as a Soviet, then the fodder pool grows greatly.

Unlikely to happen. The most likely result of any such effort would be a reprise of the Balkans on a much larger scale. If the Russians can't handle Chechnya, they sure as hell can't handle bringing the Baltic Republics, Belarus, and Ukraine in by force--and ethnic chauvinism is going to rule out voluntary cooperation.

In case of need the draft can be reintroduced in USA in matter of days. Many NATO members have draft. The fact is that Russia does not have demographic resources for expansion, but she has enough people to repel an invasion.

And which countries could expand this "fodder pool", Uzbekistan?

Soldiers smoking reefer was part of the experience in Vietnam...on both sides, oddly enough.

It makes for lousy results. The VC and NVA started imposing death sentences for possession or consumption.

Putin has not been WITH US, the day he sent horses to that "mental" Il of N. Korea, for his birthday, showed me his hand. In case you have not been paying attention N. Korea wants to nuke US

And yet a twice popularly elected (thank God for term limits or it would be thrice) president sent his younger brother to sing to the man. That is after our president (Clinton...still vastly popularly elected) sold China all our Nuclear secrets which they then passed onto the Islamic world.

Look, Russia's population is almost TWO times smaller than US and THREE times smaller than EU. Where is this large "horde" to come from?

_______________________________________

Their population is also older than ours and in worse general health. Where will their transport come from? How will they provide support as their hordes advance west? Who are their planners and General Officers, the guys who got everything wrong in Afghanistan or the guys who can't defeat the break-away Chechens? Where will the $$$$ Billions come from? Russia's economy is rife with corruption and inefficiencies. It is closer to that of Brazil than to ours.

This whole theory of Russia as the sleeping bear behind the world's terrorism that is about to awaken and dominate has no validity in real world facts or numbers. The initiate of this thread wants us to look left when the problem is to our right. He has an agenda and it is not truth or fact driven.

PUTIN SUSPENDED THE ELECTIONS

He did?! Could you provide the example which election was suspended? I accept such possiblity, but I did not hear this before.

Now, could you explain what is wrong with the central government appointing the local executives like it is done in Poland or France? I think that Putin's idea of doing it with the requirement of local legislature approval strikes a good balance. Please explain.

EXACTLY, so when Putin starts acting like the CLINTONS and I use it in the plural form, as the woman Clinton was the co-president then, RED flags go up.

Openly while on guard duty in a hostile environment? Any military that permits this is no threat.

Great post...welcome to the trenches.

It's comical that the very same people arguing that the only way to eradicate Islamic fascism from this Earth is to kill all Islamic fascists, are arguing that somehow, a little over a decade ago, communism simply changed its mind, and became a benevolent, elderly aunt whom we should all love. The only nation in the world to completely overthrow communism was Spain, and it took a long and bloody war to do it.

Russian communism, like Islamic fascism, is a cancer, and it has been in remission for a while...it's coming back.
