A few years ago, another network anchor told me he was sure Rather was crazy. This man knows him well, and feels sorry for him, but his comment was very direct: "Dan Rather is crazy. His producer tries to hold him together, but Dan is crazy."
(The show producer, not the field or segment producer Mapes.)
