I stepped foot onto Swedish soil in the summer of 1980. Took the overnight Copenhagen-Malmo ferry with my platoon and a group of Danish girls for a night of dinner and partying and duty-free. When we touched Sweden, I asked if I could walk down the gangway and stand on Swedish land. Permission was granted, and I did exactly that: stepped onto Swedish land, turned about, and marched back onto the ship for the return to Copenhagen. Thus I have been to Malmo Sweden, for the distance of 2 meters, and the time of one minute.

I was in Malmo at that time. Had you advanced a few more meters you would have had to present your passport. At that time they did not have the same problem. Mostly they had "guest-workers" and mostly they were from Poland, Hungary or Turkey and they were more adapt to blend in with the Swedish population, many marry or shack up with Swedish girls and learn the language. All the "Hell" broke loose with influx from the former Yugoslavia and the Middle East countries.
Btw in 1980 you would have been disappointed with the night life in Malmo, virtually non existing, so I'm sure you had a better time in Copenhagen at night spots like Maxims or Wonder Bar or Kakadu Bar, etc. !!!
