To give you an idea of the significance, if this involved a publicly traded stock issue, Mapes and Lockhart could easily go to jail for trading on insider information.

Rather's indefensible problem now is; he knew or should have known about this, did not disclose it in prior confessions, etc.
This is very serious. ABC friend was just called for NFA comment by a major newspaper. Paper is remaking the front page for late editions.
Lights are on in newsrooms, and phones are buzzing.
