Wild as it may seem - it may be time to look for a link with Michael Moore. He obviously didn't mind manufacturing things for his "documentary", maybe he contributed / collaborated in the forgeries. After all he has been harping on the AWOL thing the loudest and longest. Perhaps a link through Mapes??

Lt. Col. BIll Burkett is a decorated Vietnam era veteran who served 28 years in senior command and staff positions within the US Army and Army National Guard. While serving on the National Guard staff for then Governor George W. Bush, Burkett broke ranks and exposed an ongoing scam of reporting over 1,700 soldiers as present (Ghost Soldiers- USA Today, 2001) and fraudulent readiness reporting (USA Today) as well as the shredding of George W. Bush's own military service files. Burkett was one of five subjects in James Moore's book, "Bush's War for ReElection," and one of the sources for information in the Michael Moore's film "Farenheit 911." He is decorated soldier and recognized military process expert.

I am following Rathergate from Australia - the question you ask is the same as fascinates me; I have a hunch that Moore is implicated. Hackworth supposedly gave the prison photographs to Mary Mapes, Moore interviewed Nick Berg before Nick went to Iraq. An associate of Berg's in Iraq was a freelance photographer...the prison abuse photographs looked posed...Farenheit 9/11 is a fraud, Memo's are forgeries, photographs of 'torture' are posed...

What did Moore know and when did he know it seems a fair question to ask.
