The story is just incredibly damaging to Burkett. He says he BURNED the originals! If he expected a revelation like that to rescue his reputation from that of being "some kind of nut," he's even nuttier than people have said.
First rule of spy tradecraft, don't draw attention to yourself. I'm thinking starting a fire in a parking lot probably doesn't fit that rule too well.

I am following Rathergate from Australia - the question you ask is the same as fascinates me; I have a hunch that Moore is implicated. Hackworth supposedly gave the prison photographs to Mary Mapes, Moore interviewed Nick Berg before Nick went to Iraq. An associate of Berg's in Iraq was a freelance photographer...the prison abuse photographs looked posed...Farenheit 9/11 is a fraud, Memo's are forgeries, photographs of 'torture' are posed...
What did Moore know and when did he know it seems a fair question to ask.
Don't forget, he had the Abu Grahib photographs long before they were exposed in the media. What is that connection?

What's more interesting is that here he claims that they were "handed to him at the Houston Astrodome by an anonymous man"!!!

Someone who was there can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the 2004 Houston Livestock Show was at the Reliant Astrodome (for the last time) - moving next door to Reliant Stadium this year...

There is also an article at the Austin American Statesman that apparently claims Burkett was misled by CBS and that they mishandled the docs..I didn't register to see the whole story..
