Winter Soldier Investigation - Not Only Were We the Bad Guys - They Were The Good Guys
Sixties Project ^ | January 31, 1971, February 1 and 2, 1971 | Vietnam Veterans Against the War

POW SMITH. I was sure that we were going to be shot, because all the stories that I had heard at Fort Bragg...

When we arrived...everybody sat down, lit up a cigarette, offered us one, gave us some bananas to eat, patted us and reassured us that everything was going to be all right.... They constructed a small shack just big enough for the four of us; they slept out in hammocks in the water. And they allowed McClure's foot wound to heal...

MODERATOR. ...this stopover at the island was specifically for the purpose of taking care of McClure's foot...(?)

SMITH. Right, I think it was sort of to allow us time to recover from the initial shock of being captured...

It was a long walk and very difficult for us because we didn't have shoes... they did try to give us some shoes, but unfortunately the Vietnamese have small feet compared with Americans... we carried only the things that were necessary for existence, our hammocks and a change of clothes.

MODERATOR. And they carried the rest?

SMITH. And they carried all the food, and the weapons-- ...like the BAR rifle that weighs 20 pounds fully loaded. They were carrying those plus sacks of rice around their neck which can weigh 10 to 15 pounds, all of their equipment, and some of our stuff that we weren't able to carry.

MODERATOR. It sounds like they weren't after information, so what, what were they after...?

SMITH. He wanted to present the views of the National Liberation Front, concerning the war in South Vietnam. In other words, tell their side of the story. MODERATOR. Would you think of this as brainwashing?

SMITH. I would think not, unless you would say that what they did at Fort Bragg was brainwashing.

Before I read this I was under the impression that the Winter Solider Investigation was just about painting the US Military in a bad light. Reading just parts of the transcript opened my eyes! The thrust of "Smith's" testimony is that while he and other American soldiers beat their prisoners, the VC gave the Americans the "Aunt Bea" treatment - even carrying their stuff for them. They built a shelter for us and slept outside! Ain't that sweet? To borrow a phrase: NEVER AGAIN! We mustn't let happen in Iraq what happened in Vietnam.

"First I picked Edwards BUT now I pick Hanoi Jane!"

Edwards played football in 1971 when he turned 18
instead of serving in Vietnam.
Hanoi Jane at least was a Viet Cong!
Just like me!

Hanoi Jane and I know how to demoralize US Troops serving today!

We hate US Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We hate all US Troops!

We lie about them in 2004 the same as we did in the 60's and 70's!

We vow to protect the UN and the Oil for Food Scandal

We vow to keep secret the ties between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaida

We vow to free Saddam Hussein with help from our old friend Ramsey Clark.

KERRY GAVE TESTIMONY BASED UPON FALSE INFORMATION
THAT KERRY KNEW AHEAD OF TIME TO BE FALSE!

September 6, 2004 -- **BREAKING** In Yesterday's Lies: Steve Pitkin and the Winter Soldiers, Scott Swett tells the story of a former VVAW member and participant in the Winter Soldier Investigation who states that John Kerry and others pressured him to give false testimony about American atrocities in Vietnam. After more than 33 years, Pitkin is the first Winter Soldier "witness" to file a legal affadavit regarding that event...

My name is Steve Pitkin, age 20, from Baltimore. I served with the 9th Division from May of '69 until I was airvaced in July of '69. I'll testify about the beating of civilians and enemy personnel, destruction of villages, indiscriminate use of artillery, the general racism and the attitude of the American GI toward the Vietnamese. I will also talk about some of the problems of the GIs toward one another and the hassle with officers.

Did you ever notice that Michael Cimino's career never went very far after he directed "The Deer Hunter?"

Could it be that he portrayed the (communist) enemy as sadistic and harsh, and the Hollywood Left didn't appreciate that? They sure loved "Apocalypse Now" and other films that made the Americans look like psychopaths and brutes.

Good Point. Today the speak-n-evil-about group is Muslim Terrorists. I believe, but may be wrong, that a TV movie about terrorism was changed from Muslims to some other group after 9/11!

I think that was the one they made using one of Tom Clancy's books. I enjoy Tom Clancy but didn't go to see the movie because I knew Hollywood would ruin it.

Tom Clancy's book: in the novels MidEast Muslim forces find an unexploded Israeli bomb, rebuild it and send it to explode in the SuperBowl at Denver. White neo-nazi's (get it? white & conservative & reactionaries & neo-conservatives become neo-nazis so equal so fast, don't they!)
