Tony Coelho admitted on Hardball tonight that the DNC had the memos before CBS but that they didn't use them because they realized that the documents were probably fake.
'He did not come to us, we went to him and asked for the documents.'
Who told CBS/DNC that Burkett had the documents?
I TiVo'ed and watched it again, Surreal.

I understand the purposre of ellipsis in headline writing and all that, but this is a time the definite article should not have been ommitted.
There is a difference between
the DNC Had [the] Forged Memos Before CBS News Saw Them and
the DNC Had Forged [the] Memos Before CBS News Saw Them

So, they're rehabilitating Coelho? I remember when he was a great fundraiser and then didn't he resign over something???
Something fiscally improper I seem to recall.

And why did McAwful go on TV and say the memos are real. In fact the DNC is still running the story.
Doesn't pass the smell test.
The DNC fed the docs to CBS and CBS pressured Burkette. Don't forget Barnes is in the mix and I heard somewhere he wouldn't go on air for CBS unless there was a corroborating source. The memos just happened to be that source. All the pieces fit ...

The pace of breaking news is staggering tonight. I wish they would slow it down some. I am having trouble savoring every last morsel.

but that they didn't use them because they realized that the documents were probably fake. That would explain why "Fortunate Son" didn't fire up until the day CBS ran with the story. And it explains why the DNC is still running ads based on the fakes.

In they thought they were fake, why did they run the ad series featuring the memos? THAT is a very good question that we need to remember to get an answer for.

Tony Coelho said that the DNC went to Burkett? He actually said that?
Well, if Mapes told Lockhart and Cleland and the DNC/Kerry camp got the documents but didn't use them because they thought they were fakes, didn't they bother to tell CBS?
Tony Coelho is a certified liar, remember that.

This current DNC talking point/story is as fake as the documents themselves. Lemme get this straight---the DNC thought the docs were fake, but passed them on to CBS, knowing that Rather and CBS would do ANYTHING to get in the good graces of the DNC and maybe get special access to the inevitable new Kerry Administration. (Pause) Actually that does sound plausible on both sides of the equation.

They didn't use them? They put those documents right in their Fortunate Son video. Is that what they call not using them?

In they thought they were fake, why did they run the ad series featuring the memos?Because its worked so many times before. Before the internet, very few people had access to the "props" that CBS and company used to justify their positions.

We need some mood music. Can anyone hum the theme to "Titanic"? Nah - the Titanic took much longer to sink - try the Lucetania.
