This story by USA Today is meant to stop the bleeding. It is total misdirection. Burkett, Mapes and Lockhart will take the fall. Rather may even retire, but CBS and the DNC cannot ever admit complicity. Therefore Burkett admits he wanted access to the DNC, but couldn't get through. CBS would act as a broker allowing access to the DNC. This allows the DNC to admit they received the documents in August, but knew they were fake and ignored them. CBS and Rather are not the target. The DNC was involved and we have to prove it. Who forged the documents?

"Who forged the documents?"

My bet is still on Burkett. He had the military Texas National Guard "systems analyst" background but messed up on army terms via air force terms. He had the motive, the knowledge, and the opportunity. No one else fits as well as he does. Unfortunately he may also still be mentally unstable.

If they knew they were fake, why did they use the memos in the Fortunate Son ads?
