If Joe is an "unpaid" volunteer like the Kerry campaign says, why should he stick around for free and get pounded into the ground? He must be a paid staffer or he'd been outta there the night Rather broke the the story. Or....he could be just plain stupid. I think he stepped into a great big Texas cowpie and can't get the goo off his foot.

i"'m not sure that this is damaging to the dems. after all, they can note that HE made this a stipulation and they wouldn't speak with him. they also can deny that they spoke of the documents. this can be spun into a positive for them."

Lockhart has denied that he talked about the documents with Burkett. The thing is, he has said it it possible that the CBS producer told him of documents. Well she would have to tell him something about why she was in contact with Burkett and needed him to call Burkett. So CBS was in contact with the Kerry campaign about the documents. They could not have gotten the documents without making that contact.
