"We should not have used them. That was a mistake, which we deeply regret," the network said, adding that it had launched an internal investigation of the matter.

The announcement marked a dramatic and embarrassing reversal by the network that just days ago said it was satisfied with the accuracy of the documents first aired earlier this month.

The scandal put CBS on the list of U.S. journalism icons tainted in recent years by lies masquerading as truth. Other casualties include The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, the New Republic, CNN and NBC..

I might believe them if they said "we should not have been biased for the last 25 years". However, what they said sounds to me like "we are sorry we got caught".

I would willingly die for my country at a moment's notice and on the command of my president," says Rather.

I wonder if Dan Rather thinks the public can't see through this. The broadcast tonight raised more questions than it answered.

That says it all.

We need to get to the bottom of this.

What was Max Cleland's role?

Disputed Bush Memos

DISPUTED? No one disputes that they are fake. This is more MSM spin to take the bite out of the story.

Rush Limbaugh recently made the tongue-in-cheek quip that if one would dig deep enough they might find Clinton money going to the Swiftboat Vets.

Along that same line.......does anyone believe that all these Clintonoids are actually working to help sKerry win this election?

This just doesn't ring true at all! Their "experts" were not used or named by them if they had anything to say about the memos being forgeries, and when the first questions came out, if they were "series" about getting to the truth, they'd have looked at them more closely. They also need to reveal their source.

CBS should fire Dan and Ms. Mapes.

IMHO ... Cleland was a contact man. He said as much. Cleland fed the stuff to Lockhart. Lockhart to ???. I would bet Lockhart contacts CBS. Then Mapes calls Lockart back, they get Burkette to put up. Remember Burkette said tonight that he was pressured by CBS.

The whole scam was designed to even up the playing field for what the SwiftVets had done.
