I had the same reaction as you. I can't believe what I am reading.
But wait, it gets better. This thread was removed from breaking news. It could be the worst single-event disaster in my lifetime. But yeah, let the thread die out. Makes sense.

First it was reported that "the island of La Tortue off Haiti's north coast is barely visible under the water,", - I immediately thought the report was covering-up the fact that they couldn't find the island - just imagine not saying a word about the conditions of 26,000 people on an island barely above sea level and "barely visible under the water," ...
Yes, it seems this island has been wiped out from the surface of the earth
