I recently learned that that freaking virus killed my grandmother. I hope these yahoos are doing this work in a biosafety level 4 laboratory.
I had four grandparents who lived through it.
I wonder what the percentage of those who died was?
Anyway, it was a terrible illness.
One of the fascinating things...which alot of people, and even the media simply haven't ever grasped...is that vast parts of neighborhoods...especially in New York and Philly...were simply wiped out. You had kids who came home to find mom and dad almost dead. No one would take these kids in immedately because of the fear of getting the disease themselves. Food became impossible to come by because the vendors and delivery guys were all dying. Trains were leaving with a full compartment...but arriving with half the occupants dying.
And the most fascinating thing...the great President Wilson, did nothing. There is not a single public statement that you can find...made during this entire period...that the guy made in public. You can find lots of statements by Governor and mayors...which kinda leads one to ask why Wilson never spoke.
