You should check out the messages on the message board by some 'teachers'. I certainly hope they aren't really in charge of taking care of children. Not all of the teachers are behaving so irrationally, but certainly a sizeable number of them are. I've never seen such a collective group of people who cannot think for themselves. I know of some folks who are going to leave the KEA over this and join KAPE. This incident has opened their eyes to the true nature of the KEA. That, and the fact that KAPE doesn't spend so much on political campaigns and liberal causes makes the dues much, much lower. Many teachers are only in the KEA because they didn't know there was an alternative to getting legal liability insurance. We need to help get the word out about KAPE.

I happen to be an employee of the federal government and have the Federal Employees Health Benefit Plan. My current carrier is Mail Hnadlers, high option. My premium in 2004 is $180.61 every two weeks. In 2005 the premium is increasing to $296.79, an increase of $116.18 every two weeks, or $3020.68 a year.

I do have the option of switching and am going to do so. Moving to a plan with a high deductible and a Health Savings Account. I will pay less and have almost $2000 in the HSA every year and still have PPO coverage for major illness. Fortunately we are all healthy and do not have major health problems.

My point is, my SIL is a teacher and all she did this weekend was complain about the cost of her insurance. I guess she thinks she is the only one facing an increase.
