"He said he believed Ms. Mapes and her team had appropriately answered all questions about the documents' authenticity and, he noted, no one seemed to be casting doubt upon the essential thrust of the report."
I think the simple question "Are these real?" would have been a good question to ask............

CBS News Concludes It Was Misled on National Guard MemosIt's easy to issue a worthless statement like this and not acknowledge that this stupidity is due to the singlar mindset of getting rid of our president that caused this!
I hope CBS announces to it's leftist employees that, "Due to declining revenues we are forced to cease operations this afternoon. Try getting a job at Fox!"

Rather's huge mistake here burns my a*s. He knew they could have been fake but he wanted to hurt Bush more than be honest to the American people.
How someone like that can remain as a journalist is beyond me. He MUST be fired.

I asked the Admin Moderator to delete the thread. I just found the thread you are referring to. I always do a search and hadn't found it already posted, or I would never have posted the article

Can you say "suborn perjury," ?
I thought you could.

There is plenty of evidence that the people at CBS knew the memos were at least highly suspicious before they went with them.
There is also evidence that NONE of the experts really confirmed that they were genuine.
There is also evidence that CBS was guilty after the fact. That is, they stonewalled against overwhelming proof that the documents were forged, until they could stonewall no longer. That makes them accomplices to forgery after the fact.
"Misled" or "deceived" my eye. Or CBS's eye.

Too late. They've claimed victimhood and called no back-sies.
You can't blame them now - it would be like blaming a rape victim, after all.

This is about the 5th time this has been posted.
Maybe with a little luck and a few more postings most people will get an opportunity to read it...... Reckon that would be all bad?

CBS has plenty of company in the verbal contortionist catagory besides Bubba Clinton...
Heinrich Himmler: "Ovens?? I thought they were saunas! I was misled then -- wasn't I?"
Ted Kennedy: "Huh?? She drowned?? Heck -- she demanded we pull over and go for a quick skinny dip. Mary-Jo Kopechne misled me.

CBS F'd up when they continued to promote the story after the authenticity of the documents had been severely questioned. Staffers at CBS decided to attack their critics and stand their ground.
It is one thing to put forgeries on the air because of a rush to judgment in running with a story. It is another thing to continue to insist that they are real after too many inconsistencies and denials are aired.
Additionally when the documents were shown to be false, CBS shielded their source (and the Kerry Campaign) from scandal over the origins of the fake documents.
