Possibly this is the reason behind "Memogate": copies of Kerry's real military records have been smuggled out of the military files by a conservative "Deep Throat".

The Kerry campaign discovers they're going to be released in October, and responds by putting together a scheme to have Rather air bogus Bush files

After a month of "fake document" talk, any disclosure of Kerry's records would be met by cries of "See?! The fake document fad is epidemic in campaigns! We must do something to stop it!

This was pointed out earlier by another freeper, but I thought I'd repeat it, as it seems one of the few logical explanations for "Memogate"
