My two cents for what it's worth: Buckhead and his operatives used FR and it's readers as pawns.I would say... WAY overpriced!
I, personally, am more of a Rook.

It's too bad cBS isn't using their investigative prowess to discover who built & sent those memo's.My guess....
They came from the CBS News Corporate Forgery Department...

I mean, c'mon, all the forger had to do was type them on a manual typewriter and no one could have told the difference...I am almost suprised that there is not a "1970's typewriter font" available for MS Word...

There I was, squatting down beside the semi, quietly unscrewing the lugs, how was I supposed to know the driver was inside the cab with a billy club because he had lost his wheels before?

since no one is answering your question, let's ask again: How did they find out who he was? what prior post of his revealed so much about him, that he could be identified?
To: oceanview
Someone suggested that a look at a freepers "in forum" comments would ultimately reveal who he is. Buckhead, for starters, is a place in Atlanta. That he's a lawyer would also be revealed by his posts. Other than than, I don't know how the investigators figured out exactly who he is.
To: Maria S
The LA Times had a team of journalist comb through over 2+ years of Buckheads past post. They decided to hunt down a peivate citizen with authentic concerns instead of chasing down who might want to forge federal documents in order to sway a federal election.

Ironic, isn't it? All that manpower devoted to something so insignificant, losing sight of the real issue.

My two cents for what it's worth: Buckhead and his operatives used FR and it's readers as pawns. I sent him a private mailing last week congratulating him. I wish I could take it back. Would you please explain yourself further? How were we used as pawns? Do you feel that way because it turns out Buckhead has ties to conservative Republican causes. Or is it because he's an attorney? Or is it because he's affiliated with the Federalist Society and the Southeastern Legal Foundation? Or is it because he helped draft the petition to disbar Clinton?
Or is it all of the above? Are professionals not allowed as anonymous private citizens to post their observations of FR?
Or do you think Buckhead was an RNC plant whose sole purpose on this site was to discredit the memo's?
Please explain why you feel duped and used as a pawn. I know I don't feel that way and I'm interested in what makes you feel so.

Suspicions that MacDougald may have been tipped off have arisen because his quick comments on typography seemed to go far beyond his reputed expertise. He wrote that the memos purportedly written in the early 1970s by the late Lt. Col Jerry B. Killian were "in a proportionally spaced font, probably Palatino or Times New Roman....The use of proportionally spaced fonts did not come into common use for office memos until the introduction of laser printers, word processing software and personal computers," MacDougald wrote. "Far beyond his reputed expertise"? Please, it doesn't take an expert in typesetting to know this. I knew it, and plenty of others know this. It's not some arcane and mystical piece of knowlege.

And since when does it matter who you are and what your politics is when it comes to REVEALING THE TRUTH...THAT CBS LIED.??!
Damn propandists just can't quit.
I've got the ROPE. All we need is a good strong tree for these traitors who learned their "journalistic" craft and propaganda techniques straight from Hitler.

His identity, the Times says, "is likely to fuel speculation among Democrats that the efforts to discredit the CBS memos were engineered by Republicans eager to undermine reports that Bush received preferential treatment in the National Guard more than 30 years ago." Rewrite:
His identity, the Times says "is likely to anger Democrats who resorted to creating forged documents to bolster Democrat rumors that Bush received preferential treatment in the National Guard more than 30 years ago."
