I appreciate King's sentiment, "Can't we all get along". To this day, I'm somewhat put off that people mock it. That's a fairly compassionate and positive thing to say after getting clubbed by the police.
I remember that. However, I don't think he was being magnanimous at all. I think he was scared sh*tless knowing that the little racial three ring circus he starred in blew up for real.
