The Grand Deception: 'Kerry,WarHero,'Is a Myth
Richmond Times-Dispatch ^ | Sept.19,2004 | Admiral Roy F. Hoffman

Posted on 09/19/2004 2:35:19 PM PDT by kingattax

The widely repeated myth of "John Kerry, the Vietnam Navy Hero" is one of the most dishonorable and dangerous deceptions ever perpetrated upon the American public.

John Kerry is not a hero. He built this facade with unabashed personal promotion, aided and abetted by a supportive liberal media ready and willing to repeat in print his gross exaggerations, distortions of fact, and outright lies about his abbreviated four-month, 12-day tour of duty in Vietnam.

Until the Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth spoke up in press conferences, television ads, and with the now best-selling book, Unfit for Command, no one - not even the conservative media - seriously or effectively challenged the veracity of John Kerry's self-aggrandizement. Only now is his war-hero facade beginning to peel away.

This did appear earlier from another source, but there's
no harm in giving Hoffman extra coverage.
And while we're at it ...

Kerry the war hero, Readers Digest edition:
2004-09-19 16:40

  • Kerry used the deferment system until finally denied.

  • He then enlisted in the USNR, because "I didn't really want to get involved in the war, ..."

  • He transferred to PCFs when they were relatively safe open-water "PT-109"-like "Market Time" operations. "When I signed up for the swift boats, they had very little to do with the war. They were engaged in coastal patrolling and that's what I thought I was going to be doing."

  • When did he find out about the switch to vastly more dangerous "SEALORD" ops, and why was he 17 days late reporting as ordered to Vietnam?
He did at least usually follow orders, and usually did not flee the field under fire. We can give him that.
  • The Christmas in Cambodia story is now revealed as a total fiction, so we have to wonder about any other claimed Kerry exploits.

  • He gamed the medal system and scammed 3 Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star w/V and a Silver Star.

  • His own journal says that on a date after the 1st PH action, "... we hadn't been shot at yet ...". This quote, at least, looks honest.

  • He has 2 citations for the BS, and 3 for the SS. The final citation for the SS is entirely disclaimed by the SecNAV who supposedly authored it. What is going on here?

  • Kerry bingoed out on the 3PHs. Most heros didn't, unless actually disabled.

  • He was still a USNR officer while he:
    • gave false hearsay testimony to Congress
    • negotiated with the enemy
    • helped the US lose a war
    • abetted in the deaths of millions
    • created a hostile environment for all servicemen

  • He gamed the Reserve system to skip out on 2 years of drills (yes, the same JFK questioning GWB's ANG service)

  • He waited until a dim-witted Democrat was President before requesting a Discharge, why?

  • He sabotaged the POW recovery effort to benefit a family business.

  • He claims to have released all his records, but the U.S.Navy says "not so". Will Kerry sign the SF-180? It could clear all this up.

  • Kerry continues his treacherous legacy by criticizing Bush's handling of the War on Terror, and disparaging our allies, but failing to lay out any kind of credible alternative plan. This is providing encouragement to the enemy (again) and causing them to launch attacks intended in part to affect the election. Kerry is once again getting people needlessly killed.

Some war hero.

Thanks for the recap. I still can't believe how the MSM hasn't invetigated any of this. Kerry's behavior, especially after return from Vietnam, has been so egregious.

Let's not forget Kerry's stellar Senate career's where his greatest achievements were

Stopping the funding for the Nicaraguan Contras after bring back a peace agreement with Daniel Ortega of the Sandanistas (which was worthless). Ortega turned around and solicited $200 million from the Soviets a few days later. Read: Kerry's Disloyal Nicaraguan Journey and Don't forget 'The John Kerry Committee'

Investigating (or creating) the Iran/Contra and BCCI scandals.

Blocking the vote on the Vietnam Human Rights Act in the Senate in 2001, which tied U.S. aid to Vietnam's human rights performance, and had passed by a 410-1 margin in the House of Representatives. Kerry, chairman of the Senate's East Asian and Pacific Affairs subcommittee, said in a statement at the time that he and fellow Vietnam War veteran Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) "are concerned that denying aid to Vietnam would actually slow human rights improvements." Many Vietnamese living abroad, along with human rights campaigners, say conditions in Vietnam have deteriorated in the three years since Kerry blocked the legislation.

Persuading the MIA/POW Senate committee to vote unanimously that no POWs existed in Vietnam in order to open up trade with Vietnam (his cousin C. Stewart Forbes, CEO of Colliers Intl, received a contract for a huge commercial deal worth at least $905 million to develop a deep-sea commercial port at Vung Tau).

Stolen Honor: Kerry's Tale

Excerpt:
In the mid 1960’s thousands of young American men left their families, homes and jobs and went to fight for their country in Southeast Asia. These brave men went from their farms, factories and offices to the rice paddies of Vietnam to fight for freedom in what they believed was a patriotic and noble cause. Many of them never returned. Others were shot down and captured behind enemy lines. They were forced to suffer years of brutal treatment at the hands of the Communist captors.

Their horrifying days of darkness, starvation and torture were made worse by the actions of a young American Officer named John Kerry. As these American heroes suffered in inhuman conditions, John Kerry sat comfortably in the warm glow of television lights to tell a Senate Committee that these same men were ‘war criminals’.

The story of these valiant POWs is compelling and powerful. Stolen Honor is THEIR story. It’s the story the media won’t tell you. It’s the story John Kerry doesn’t want you to hear.

“Stolen Honor” investigates how John Kerry’s actions during the Vietnam era impacted the treatment of American soldiers and POWs. Using John Kerry’s own words, the documentary juxtaposes John Kerry’s actions with the words of veterans who were still in Vietnam when John Kerry was leading the anti-war movement.

I'm now reading "Stolen Honor" and find it fascinating, Hanity or O'Reilly should have B.G. Burkett on a show) Brian Dennehey(?) bragged about his service and wounds in Viet Nam - LIE; Senator Tom Harkin (recently of accusing President Bush of lying) bragged of his flying missions in Viet Nam and when challenged by Barry Goldwater (where have the Barry Goldwaters gone) he retracted and said he flew missions over Cuba and finally had to admit he only flew planes between the Philipines and Okinawa in addition to Kerry - what can I say - sewer rat, what else can you call him?

I've always wondered how many of the POW's gave up and died in captivity or resisted and were killed. I assume that we never knew the whole story from that era.

Don't assume that you'll never know. Get Stolen Honor (www.stolenhonor.com), rent Return with Honor. Yes, some POWs did give up and die; and some were tortured to death.

I have no doubt as to how Kerry will address the war in Iraq if he is elected.. It will simply be Kerry's "Vietnam the model" redux.

We are losing the war, we cannot win the war, it is the wrong war, at the wrong place, at the wrong time, for the wrong reasons, too many American troops are losing their lives. And the famous Kerry Vietnam coup de gra, "which of you stupid Americans wants to be the last to die for nothing."

Kerry will leave the Iraqis to the tender mercies of the Islamist fascist terrorists the same way he, and I mean he, left the South Vietnamese, the indigenous mountain tribes and over one million slaughtered Cambodians to the insane murderers Kerry advocated then as being just "peaceful agrarian reformers."

The MSM wouldn't be the MSM if they investigated liberal lies. On the other hand, if they really investigated liars they might truly become the MSM. A riddle.
