Heinz or 'W' ketchup with those fries?
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | Sunday, September 19, 2004 | Whispers

Pittsburgh is about to find out what political party patrons of an upscale Japanese steakhouse prefer their ketchup to be affiliated with.

Nakama restaurant on the South Side last week began polling its diners on whether they favor Heinz or W ketchup. Democrat nominee John Kerry's wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, is the Heinz ketchup heiress; W ketchup is a novelty condiment cooked up by George Bush supporters who considered the idea of putting a condiment with Democrat leanings on their burger and fries distasteful.

We no longer support any Heinz products along with those from France. Can't "stomach" the thought...

We bought 5 bottles of W Ketchup since we weren't very happy with Hunt's and we wouldn't buy Heinz. It's amazing actually, since W Ketchup actually tastes great -- better than any of the alternatives I know of.

In an Aug. 18 letter to the editor of the Carolina Morning News, Debora S. Foster, vice president of corporate communications for Heinz in Pittsburgh, Pa., wrote, "More than 60 percent of Heinz's sales are outside of the United States. We make products in the countries and regions in which they are sold." She added, "Neither Mrs. Teresa Heinz Kerry nor Sen. John Kerry nor any of the Heinz trusts or endowments - either individually or collectively - holds a significant percentage of shares of the H.J. Heinz Co. (Their current holdings are under 4 percent.) No Heinz family member is involved in the management or board of the H.J. Heinz Co. They have no involvement in the Heinz Ketchup business or any of the company's other brands or products."

But on Sept. 16, 2004, The Daily Show's Jon Stewart joked with Kerry about Kerry's wife, Teresa, who inherited a ketchup fortune from late husband, Sen. John Heinz: "Is it true that every time I use ketchup your wife gets a nickel?"

"Would that it were," Kerry said. "But use the ketchup a lot anyway."

That's enough of a nexus for me. Screw Heinz.

W Ketchup tastes great and a portion of each sale goes to children who lost parents fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan...

It's the only ketchup we'll use now.
