Bill Burkett -
Crazy. Isolated. A nut-case.
The press would like us to think that Bill Burkett is an alienated lone wolf, a disabled former member of the National Guard working independent of all power bases. Nothing is further from the truth. Far from being a wacked-out loner, Bill Burkett is powerful and influential figure in TX Democrat Circles...

From: "Stan Merriman" Date: Fri Sep 17, 2004 2:11 pm Subject: Bill Burkett and David Van Os vs. Karl Rove
Fellow Progressive Populist Caucus Members:
Our brother, Bill Burkett is under siege by the Carl Rove smear machine. Bill is a charter member of the PPC and our friend. Co-founder of the PPC with me,
David Van Os assures me that as Bill's legal Counsel on a longstanding basis, any assertions that Bill has engaged in "forgery" vis a vis the now infamous documentation of the Bush desertion of duty as a Texas National Guardsman is total smear with the footprints of the Karl Rove modus operandi all over it. Representing the PPC, I stand with both our brothers Burkett and Van Os and applaud their guts to stand up to the right wing slander machine; President Kerry and many of our DNC brethren can take a lesson from our two populist fellow-Texans who have the cajones to look contemptuously in the eye these ruthless cowards bringing down our formerly proud democracy and tell them to go to h*ll.
Stan Merriman Chair, Progressive Populist Caucus of the Texas Democratic Party.
The Progressive Populist Caucus, in their own words, is "the democratic wing of the Democratic Party in Texas". Their Steering Committee is comprised of a stellar group of Texas Democrats: OFFICERS
Chair: Stan Merriman, Harris County Secretary: Kathy Curley, Dallas County Treasurer: Armando C. Cadena, Bexar County Sgt. at Arms: Anna V. Casey, Collin County Membership: John Curley, Dallas County Strategy Chair: Melissa McIntosh, Dallas County Convention Strategy Chair: John Behrman, Harris County Parlimentarian: David Van Os, Bexar County
Vice Chairs:
San Antonio/South: Ann Marie Schroeder, Bexar County Austin/Central: Bruce W. Barrick, Travis County Houston/SouthEast: Julie Jackson Lusby, Harris County DFW/North: Bill Howell, Dallas County West: Wild Horse, El Paso
Among them, David Van Os - who is Burkett's legal counsel, and is currently running for Texas Supreme Court Judge.
UPDATES coming shortly...
These sneaky shits are certifiable. Rotten, no good creeps. When all the dots are connected, the guilty parties should be prosecuted for forging military documents.
Good post, esp with Van Os running for TX SC justice.
Look for more stonewalling and hoping the whole thing goes away.

This is great .. Rush was talking about this information on Friday. He said that the media is trying to portray Burkett as this average Joe guy .. but Burkett is far from that, and Rush proceeded to give these details about the guy.
They have a very pretty website. I don't think they got it by being "loose cannons", do you?
Good! Did Rush cover this? If so, I need to credit... I didn't get to hear him today :(
Nope. Burkett is tied into so many people right now it is Crazy.
He was supposed to be their Ace in the hole. They didn't think the MSM would bury him back in Feb-March like they did when Kerry started in on the awol stuff.
I'm not sure he was quoting this story, but I distinctly remember him saying that the MSM was trying to paint Burkett as just some average guy, and Rush contended Burkett was nothing of the kind.
Yes, I remember hearing rumbles about this all day today. This is the only thing I've seen that concretely ties Bill Burkett to the Party, other than his association with Van Os.
The "yahoo groups" thread here on FR got me to looking, and I found this... I'm looking for more goodies, and I've copied a bunch to TXT files just in case they pull the messages.
Do you think they'll be surprised when they find out they blew their own cover on their yahoo group?
I posted that last night in another thread along with the below message, which seems to indicate that Burkett is pretty active in the Texas Democratic Party.
In other articles in the newsgroup, he was also pretty vocal about the Republican redistricting plan and the TDP's strategy to shift resources from rural districts to core inner-city Democratic strongholds in Houston and Dallas.

Subject: Re: [TX-Demos] Mary Moore [for TDP Chair]
There are many of us out here that fight the everyday battles at the local and regional level who would like to know more about all of the potential candidates for the job BEFORE everything is cut up in backroom deals. I'd like to know more about Mary Moore and what she can and will do for the party, including her approaches.
I've heard the name of Jim Mattox mentioned and know of Jim's history a little better. John Courage, I know of from a short distance. David Van Os, I know personally. But there are other names already being kicked around.
Believe me, I will be talking with the SD24 folks and want their take on everything BEFORE deals are cut or ballots are taken. That's better for me - better for
the SDEC members and better for the party.
Bill Burkett
I also came across something interesting while reading a report of Burkett's involvment with the TDP. Burkett had addressed the local Taylor County (Abeline) folks after he levelled his most recent charge that Bush hid documents.
http://www.reporter-news.com/abil/nw_local/article/0,1874,ABIL_7959_2723860,00.html
The article states that Abilene is in Taylor County, Baird, where Burkett is actually from is in Callahan County.
I guess the question is did Burkett need to be an elected member of the TFP in order to be a member of the Progressive Caucus? It's entirely possible that Burkett was an elected precinct chair in Callahan County, Texas.
We may be able to put the final nail in Burkett's coffin with a simple phone call to the Callahan County Clerk, Jeanie Bohannon on Monday and definitively link Burkett to the Democrats.

I saw your post!! Did you copy the messages, or get source code? I have a feeling they are going to disappear...
Great job finding these messages, btw. They are a real goldmine!

Great find and it proves that BB is in cahoots with the DNC!
As soon as you read the word "Progressive", it translates directly to "communist". Os is also a member of the Communist Party USA. Makes me wonder what Burkett's connections are to the CPUSA, and how far back they go. There could indeed be some treason involved, since Burkett was in the NG until 1999.
I've also read that in Texas, it is illegal for anyone who is a communist party member to run for public office. Seems as though Os is SOL in his bid for the Tx Supreme Court - as long as someone there points that fact out to the election commission.
I just fished off thetwo documents in this thread and saved them on my hard disk for posterity.
I can't take all of the credit for finding these articles. It was crushelits, who pointed me to the Yahoo groups website. I just went through all of the posts in the newsgroup.
Did you notice that the PPC also has a Yahoo group, but they were smart and safeguarded their messages behind a membership requirement?
I just want to hug you right now - but maybe that's just the diet lime coke talking...
Do you have a link? Mebbe we can see if a cached link works?
