I agree with your assessment. Canada needs the US for protection (it is an easy way into the US but other than natural resources isn't a player in the international community), yet criticizes the US for the Iraq war. Canada needs to stand on its own and step away from the UN. Sorry state of affairs for a country that made significant contributions on D-Day and some good contributions in Korea, with proportionately huge numbers of lives lost. Won't happen again because Canada is keeping a low profile by staying out of anything going on outside its own borders and hopes that terrorists don't notice the country. With all the resources Canada has it should contribute as much as a country like Australia (slightly lower population but much bigger standing in the international community), but stands on its hands and leaves things up to the UN. Shameful.

The only meaningful prescription for Canada?

Nine new states after merging with the USA. Quebec can go it alone as a socialist frozen third world country, supplying electricity and wood products to more advanced nations.
