CBS Relied On Dems for Documents Burkett, Moore Both Tied to Memogate Story September 18, 2004 01:06:47 EDT Memogate is the story that just keeps giving. The Washington Post and The New York Times both have huge stories in today's editions on the connections between Bill Burkett, CBS News, and the Democratic Party.
First from the Post's:
The former Texas National Guard officer suspected of providing CBS News with possibly forged records on President Bush's military service called on Democratic activists to wage "war" against Republican "dirty tricks" in a series of Internet postings in which he also used phrases similar to several employed in the disputed documents. [...]
In e-mail messages to a Yahoo discussion group for Texas Democrats over the past few months, Burkett laid out a rationale for using what he termed "down and dirty" tactics against Bush. He said he had passed his ideas to the Democratic National Committee but that the DNC seemed "afraid to do what I suggest."

CBS Relied On Dems for Documents
My question is. . .'are RNC lawyers working/investigating this. . .anyone tackling this from as a criminal investigation?'
correction: that would be either 'from' or 'as'. . .and a bump for truth here!
If the dems can't handle a fake memo, how are they going to handle national security?
Go to the CBS.com webpage. At the very bottom they have a link: Contact us. Go to the news section and you can give them a comment.
I like using the words of their own guidelines for CBS NEWS Standards:
Page 37B headed "Standards and Procedures," which says, in part: "Anonymous sources should be used only when it is determined (1) that there is no other practicable way to obtain and report the information; (2) that the information is factual and of sufficient newsworthiness to warrant its use despite the fact that we cannot disclose its source; and (3) that the source and his information are highly reliable in the particular instance."
There is more, including this: "Where the use of an anonymous source is necessary, as much information as possible about the nature [underlined] of the source should be provided to the audience, assuming, of course, that this information would not lead to disclosure of the source. Where the source may have a vested interest in the matter to be reported, it is especially important that information be provided as to the nature and/or motivation of the source."
It goes without saying that CBS should admit they used fake documents without proper examination.
