I'm interested in who the author is, but more interested in who had/saw them before CBS found them.

I think Burkett or Os is the author. I think the author got them to the DNC and Kerry campaign long before CBS was aware. The DNC or Kerry campaign then called CBS (timing is everything, the DNC/Kerry campaign want to control the timing of the story hitting, and the DNC/Kerry campaign had "Fortunate Son" campaign, of more than one element, organized).

The DNC or Kerry campaign starts the Fortunate Son campaign, "pulls the trigger," by calling CBS and advising them of a person in Texas. That call could be anonymous, "Hello, CBS News 60 Minutes? Hi. I think you guys should call Mr. Burkett in Texas. His number is xxx-xxx-xxxx. He has some memos written by GWB's commander in the TexANG that I think you will interested in. No. I prefer to be anonymous, but Mr. Burkett will make himself known to you. Bye."

Mary Mapes needs to be investigated. She spend five years investigating Bush's National Guard record and the best she can come up with is phony memos?
