A FINE Gael frontbencher has broken with the party over its position on the presidential election.
FG spokesman on social and family affairs, Michael Ring, said he was angered at the party's blocking of Dana Rosemary Scallon at local government level. Mr Ring expressed his views at a meeting of the party front bench.
Our Presidential Elections are due around the same time as the US, but there may not be an election, because our local government don't have the courage to back a conservative like Dana, unless the left winger Green Party TD Eamon Ryan, decides to run, then there would be no problem.
President of Ireland [Uachtarain na hEireann], Her Excellency, Mary McAllese, has been signing away Bunreacht na hEireann [Constitution of Ireland], for the past seven years of her presidency, like Mary Robinson did for the seven years before that - Irish freedom cannot survive another seven years of this - Dana Rosemary Scallon is our only hope - she will stand for our Constitution to the death .
Irish freedom in crisis ping
Who are "FINE Gael"?
Who are "Fianna Fail"?
Not many Americans know of these.

At this stage, it doesn't matter, all Irish political parties are leftist - I'll give the yanks a detailed description in a few hours time - I made the mistake of posting this at bed time - but my country can't wait; I had to post this, just bear in mind, I only pinged a few of ye yanks for yer own interpetation, this thread, no offense intended, is mainly for the eyes of Irish Freepers - our Republic is in trouble too!!!
Happygal, notice I have no URL posted, I wasn't allowed post the URL, the Indo are now engaging in censorship!!!

In any case good night, will debate this in the morn - I should have, by rights waited 'til then to post this article!!!
Or should I say "Good morning" at this hour?
I.T. just a couple of things.
A) I agree that if Dana wants to stand in the Presidential election, she should be allowed to stand. We live in a democracy - and a candidature like hers should not be forbidden because the main political parties have ring-fenced because they couldn't be bothered fielding their own candidates.
B) Please explain to me HOW you see Mary McAleese as having any real role in selling Ireland down the swanee? In fairness, the Irish Presidency is not a partisan political role (nor should it be).
It's not the Irish Indo that are into 'censorship'.
I believe it is the UK Independent, who have a large share in unison.ie, who seem to have revoked post linking to FR.
Ya know Irish_thatcherite, my other half translates the stuff that comes out of the Dutch parlaiment for the EU presidency. It's driving her mad! Imagine (epically all the US lurkers reading this) the DNC X 100. Imagine Hitlery, Al Sharpton, Tom Dasshole, Kerry running your country??? That is what's happing to europe.
Anyway -- MAYO for SAM!!
Hey Happy, nice to see ya at 3.00 AM! I'm half drunk (watching ryder cup)- what's your excuse?
Oi! Ye are blowing my cover! *L*
3 a.m.? Surely not! Yer clock is wrong! Hahaha!
Just in from a night out meself - only sober (I got to be designated driver tonight!)
What a bad start. :(
BTW, I write a little bit of comedy stuff for corporate cabarets etc.
Suffice it to say, I have a brilliant one brewing about the whole Rosemary Scanlon presidential bid! :-)
A bad start?
Depends on what side of the Atlantic you are on, Dan! ;-)
Three Micks on the European team, remember!
BTW Colosis...a couple of things..
a) Europe wrecks my head too.
b) Dana's not the ONLY Irish Conservative, we're here! :-)
c) How's the babs?
Three Micks on the European team, remember!
Normally I'll root for them, but not when they play the US...and certainly not in my home state.(Oakland Hills is one county away from me)
Here's the strange part - Padrig Harrington is the cousin of Joey Harrington - QB of the Detroit Lions, our home football team.
Yep, I'm an avid golfer, but I find it hard to support a Europe team. Believe it or not, Paul Mc Ginley is related to me (mothers 2nd nephew or something)and I cheer on the Irish golfers and Mrs Doubtfire (Monty) when I'm really wasted!, but I just can't get excited about a Europe team. Maybe it was those stupid shoes Langer was wearing, but I'm definitely anti-europe.
Happy, you doing comedy?? Jaysus, I'd love to see that. Let me know how you get on - Ireland badly needs a non-lefty comedian, though I like Darragh O'Brien. JimOwen was also a favorite of mine when I was living in Australia.
I normally keep mum about bashing other countries' leaders, but I raised a pint of Guinness after the Americans walked out of her ambush conference a few years back.
To quote one of our own jokers..."We feel your pain". We had Klinton for 8 years.
