White House rips Rather for report, his advice
The Washington Times ^ | Not dated | Bill Sammon

Posted on 09/17/2004 8:41:29 AM PDT by Beckwith

ROCHESTER, Minn. — The White House yesterday slammed CBS anchorman Dan Rather for offering President Bush campaign advice and for relying on the "feelings" of a Bush critic to impugn his military record.

TOPICS: Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: billburkett; billsammon; cbs; cbsnews; conspiracy; documents; forgeries; killian; marymapes; rather
Way at the end, is the following:

"Earlier this week, Newsweek magazine reported that Mr. Rather's producer on the story, Mary Mapes, flew to Texas over the summer to interview Mr. Burkett."

CBS and especially Mary Mapes must have been sitting on these forgeries for weeks, if not months, waiting for the key moment to drop them on the public.

Some one should point out that the Knox woman contradicted herself.

SHe Said Staudt never exerted influence on Killian but then said the content of the memos is accurate.

Is anyone else disgusted with the kid-glove treatment of Dan Rather? Even those that argue that the memos are unquestionably forgeries state their great respect for Rather and argue that he, too, was a victim...that he could not possibly be complicit in launching or foisting the memos on the public. Why is it not possible? He's a partisan. He hates the Bush family. His daughter is an operative in the Texas Democrat party. Of course he could have been in this from the start.

In the end, it really doesn't matter if he was an instigator or a dupe in the whole matter. Because, whoever fabricated those memos is guilty of several crimes, including the federal crime of forging federal documents (and designed to influence the outcome of a presidential election). Dan, presumably, knows who the culprit is. He cannot hide behind the First Amendment if these documents are fake (as we all know they are). So, unless Dan gives up the criminal, he, too, will be charged.

Mary Mapes has a reputation for being an EXTREME liberal. It wouldn't surprised me a bit if she is also a DUmmie. If so, I wonder what her DUmmie screen name might be.

As I understand it, reckless disregard or malfeasance is justification for a criminal charge. I think the RNC should press charges against CBS right now. See what falls out of the closet.

I think we're all disgusted with this whole matter -- our MSM is pathetic and this is just one example of many. Other news outlets (like the NY Times) have done the same thing CBS news has done -- those people are lucky that the focus happens to be on CBS right now and not on them.

Through the storm, Blather's selective hearing allows him to dismiss the roaring tide of overwhelming evidence of forgery and fake as merely the work of "partisan operatives".

Were I Sumner Redstone, I might want to invest in a pair of Miracle Ears for Dandy Dan to help improve his hearing. The boy just flat out doesn't hear wht he doesn't want to.

White House aides were furious that Mr. Rather did not disclose to viewers that Mrs. Knox...

I would not want to nitpick the nice reporter, but shouldn't you be reporting on the facts, not the feelings.

"It's always best for journalists to stick to reporting the facts and not try to dispense campaign advice," Mr. McClellan said.

Ahh, this is priceless. Thank-you Mr. Mc C!!!

That's NOT the title of Sammon's article, which is:

"White House rips Rather for report, his advice"

If she had a hand in authoring the forged memos, I'd say her screen name would probably be Mary Mapes. But possibly unintentionally misspelled.

...waiting for the key moment to drop them on the public.

Yep, and with GWB looking so strong they had to do it now

Plus, it coincided with the MSM's "Get Dubya Week" that began last Monday. But cBS screwed it up. LOL!

To take it a step further, he is also still out there spouting that it is the "content" of the story and he's still running the story likes its true. That is pitiful my friends and just shows how desperate he is to make Pres. Bush look bad. Purely shameful.

Mapes supposedly spent 5 years on this ANG smear. Maybe once she's dumped by CBS she can get a life.

I was talking to my Dad last night. Apparently, at least one CBS station is refusing to carry 60 Minutes II until Rather is fired, and the Atlanta station is crying mercy because their viewership is down 54% in just a few days.

Well, well, well...it looks like Mr. McClellan has finally (at least proverbially) grown a pair...
