So, why couldn't A-Rod just walk to first wihtout making threats? More than likely the only reason A-Rod didn't charge the mound (he was working himself up pretty good, it looked to me) was because Varitek came out... But that's just personal opinion.
Bottom line is both guys were out of line.
There's a difference between being heckled and someone saying "Let's go". If I'm in an argument with someone and they say "Let's go" (which A-Rod admitted saying) that is a pretty good indication they want to fight. If someone is just talking shit to me, then that is different.

As a life long Red Sox fan who never misses a pitch, I can't argue with NY history. However, all great teams must fall and the Red Sox are about to stick a fork into NY. I predicted after the Yankees lost to Arizona that they will not see another World Series Title for at least 25 years. I still strongly believe that, but we will soon see a Red Sox championship in the near future.
